A very attractive piece- It is beautifully engraved with birds and leaves- see the photographs. Which describe it a lot better than I can. Size: just under 6 inches high(15 cm) Weight: 268 grammes Condition: Overall very good- there is some wear as you would expect. But no very obvious or unsightly damage: see the photographs. Description This antique circa 19th century or earlier Islamic Persian or Indian rose water sprinkler. Is of gorgeous melon form probably cast in brass but with hand worked filing to all the ribs. It has a tapered spout attached with lovely old screw thread and the short stem spreading base has knurled rope twist at the top and lobed edge at the rim. This fabulous old piece has a strange groove decoration around the neck of the spout. Which we believe may have been caused by wire or cord bindings for suspension tied around and worn and etched into the metal over time with the action of dust and rosewater liquids helping the process, there are many other old dinks, marks and wear to the surfaces. There is old patination in the protected areas where polishing could not reach, the underside of the base has that lovely soft smooth feel you get ... moreon really old metalwork and there is a reddish patina to the inner edge of the spout where it screws in. It is in good condition apart from later old replacement nut holding the base to the body and set in place with solder(please see photos) Height 13.3cm. 5.1.4" unpacked weight 195 grams. A superb. Top-quality, intricately detailed tray, finely engraved and chased with a paisley or Boteh pattern overlaid with writhing plant forms and berries and a border of peacock rosettes. Antique 8 " Islamic inlay Qajar box micro wood mosaic fine hand painted pattern
Beautiful hexagonal inlay and painted Islamic Qajar box. 8"x7" x 2 1/4" high. Condition is fine. This piece had a hanging wire on the back and was probably kept safe by being hung away from daily use. Small paint loss on top(corner painted right of figures photo# in bone with blue calligraphy- loss is within the white area luckily and is camouflaged by not going into red area) Small bits of varnish loss along one top edge. Otherwise this piece is in a great state of preservation. Two corners show small openings. But generally corners are good. What strikes me is the wonderful detail in the top pattern painting with rich colors. Fine inlay along top edges and all sides. Inside is clean(probably because it was not used) showing little oxidation. I would estimate/date this piece from end of the 19th to early 20th c.
