Up for auction is a one of a kind Double Bitted Hand Forged Belt Axe. It measures 13-1/4" long overall. The eye is diamond shaped. It is hand forged. Relief carved. It is 6-1/4" long. Double bitted. It has some dings on the steel on each end. The wood handle does have a little bit of damage as can be seen in the pictures. This is a period 1800's or possibly earlier hand forged belt axe. This item will be shipped from the UK A good early Sudanese/ Nilotic throwing knife. This is an older hand forged example with two striking edges. The outer edge of the curve is sharp and the weapon could also be used for close combat. There is some simple notch decoration to the spine. The handle is hard wood. Overall length: 57cm Condition: The metal has a deep black age patina and could be cleaned back to reveal the base metal. The handle is firmly attached but is split rather badly-see pictures. Early Hand Forged PA Style Belt Axe or Hatchet
Offered for purchase ONE Early Hand Forged PA Style Belt Axe or Hatchet. Measuring 13" overall. The head is 5 3/8" long across the center, the edge is a hair over 2 7/8" high(straight across) and this weighs 2 lbs 2 3/4 oz unboxed. Not signed as to the maker. This is in decent condition. It was cleaned and rehandled by someone else, the only thing I did was to wipe it down a little. The head has the usual patina. There was some mushrooming taken off of the poll and this was recently sharpened as well. The forge weld line is visible at the front of the eye on the top and bottom but I don't think this is cracked. There are some lines on both sides of the eye but I don't think it's cracked there. The handle is I think a Plumb one. It is on tight and well it's just as easy to dress it down with a rasp and a spoke ... moreshave than it is to pull it if you want something a little older looking. This is a small hand forged bag axe by Beaver Bill Forging Works. The handle is Osage Orange stained dark and is 10" long. I put dings and gouges in the handle to provide a more secure grip so it wouldn't slide out of my hand as easily(those are shown in the photos) The blade is 2" long and has not been sharpened but I did age it with Birchwood Plum Brown. I made the leather sheath which has a post on one side to secure the flap and a small sleeve on the back to feed a 1-1/4" bag strap though. If your bag strap is bigger you can run leather shoe strings through it to secure it to you bag. I believe I paid $150 for the axe new. Please send me a note if you have any questions. BARN FIND Old Iron Hand Hewing Ax Log Cabin Pioneer Farm Axe Hatchet Description The hewing ax is the preferred tool for flattening the surface of round logs. In past centuries. Wood beams were often made by splitting the logs with some type of mallet and or glut. Then they were surfaced with an adz or a hewing ax. When iron axes became available, the hewing ax almost replaced the adz. Hewing axes were frequently used to roughly square the logs before they were sawn into boards with a pit saw. This particular ax is an old west barn find. From the Comstock Historic Mining District in western Nevada. It is approximately 14.5 inches long and 7.0 inches wide. Wood handle with iron blade. No markings. It is rusty with some pitting but would make an interesting display piece. This hewing ax is a throw back to the times when hardy people came to ... morea new area and had to build with their own hands. The Comstock District includes the towns of Virginia City. Gold Hill, Silver City and Dayton was at one time the largest Gold& Silver producing mine sites in the world. People from all over the world travelled to the area in hopes of striking it rich. After the boom the area became little more than ghost towns. In the 60's the area began to revive a bit as people began to moveback into the towns and establishing quiet canyon communities. Of late with the high price of gold Mining has also returned to the area.

Very early 19th century. 1765-1815) The handle is possibly the original or at least a very very early replacement. The ax head is 5 and 7/8 inches top to blade edge and the blade is 5 and 1/4 inches across. The handle is 16 and 1/2 inches long. Somewhere in its lifetime someone slipped in an old cut-nail to secure the head tighter. The cut-nail is late 19th century or later. Please examine the photos carefully. Antique Broad Head axe found in the late 1960’s at the site of a late 1800's Northern Michigan logging camp. Coated with boiled Linseed oil as my dad did with all of his logging camp finds. He said the oil keeps these forged pieces from rusting or corroding any further. It obviously works. He put a period correct Maple handle on it. This axe head is in great shape. Hand forged. Hi and thanks for looking at this custom shaped unique Viking inspired Hand Axe/ Hatchet Ca 1950. The vintage Elwell carbon steel head is in excellent condition with no defects and has been cleaned. Treated, custom shaped by myself to my own design and all polished to show off the patina and character. Then the bit is polished and given a wicked edge sharp enough to slice paper. The custom made ergonomic handle is made from seasoned stock Ash. Naturally coloured, and given an embossed diamond grip for a sure grip, treated with Teak Oil and Beeswax for then fixed with a wooden and Steel wedge. The sheath is custom made from thick full grain Tooling Hide. Fixed with black rivets and gunmetal popper, coloured and treated to aid waterproofing.
