Vintage Art Deco Egyptian Revival Damascene bracelet featuring a design of Egyptian gods. Scarab beetle and assorted symbols. The bracelet is in good vintage used condition with wear commensurate with age. The brass settings are clean and show traces of the original gold-plating which has for the most part been worn away. The precious metals on the damascene designs show some light wear but still retain two-tone colouring in most places. The damascene piece with the scarab beetle has a signature/ makers mark in Arabic( lettering. The bracelet is approx 7.25 inches long x just over 5/8ths inch long. Egyptian scarab signet necklace pendant
This scarab has been kept unharmed by adding a sterling silver pendant mount. Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics carved on the belly. Originally stood for the owner of the scarab, and was pressed into clay or wax to indicate that person's possession, or signature. The"Scarab" is a beatle which was honored as a god figure in ancient times. It was thought that a large scarab pushed the sun across the sky much as an actual scarab pushes a ball of dung as food for it's offspring. Mostly a scarab was small enough to wear on the finger or as a bracelet. It had a wire through the hole front to back and wrapped around the finger or wrist to be turned around and used when needed, like carrying a common ink pen today. This scarab was bought in Texas at a Cirio shop so is probably not genuine.

Egytpian silver handmade filigree Scarab ring. Circa 1930-1940. The scarab measures 13x9mm in a bezel setting. The scarab is made of faience. The same material used by the ancients. It is the first of all man-made materials and consists of ground quartz sand mixed with water and tree gum. It is made into a paste which is then dyed, dusted with ground glass and fired in an oven. The ring has an adjustable shank with nice filigree work and can be stretched up to a size 10. All measurements are approximate.

The pendan t is a fine combination of carved stone( scarab beetle mounted(the old-fash ioned way) between a pair of angel- or eagle-style sterling silver wings. With a little dangl e(tail? hangin g down. It is marked on the back of one win g: STERLING" but even more interesting are the marks carved into the BACK of the stone scarab. Scarab itself is carved in the traditional dung beetle form and is highly stylized. This Ramesside scarab originates from Egypt and dates to the Egyptian New Kingdom. Which dates the piece to around 1550- 1069BC. Bottom of piece depicts a hunting scene showing a human figure with bow on right with animals, possibly a lion, depicted to the left. A New Kingdom style circa 1600 BC to 1100 BC Steatite Scarab purchased from The Barakat Gallery on Rodeo Drive.Beverly Hills,C.A.I have the original letter of authenticity and envelope,the letter with the scarabs description is signed by Mr.Fayez Barakat.Before I purchased this,I fully researched the Barakat Gallery.They have been featured in many artifact/antiquities magazines and Mr.Barakat was/is quite reputable.I couldn't find anything negative about them as far as selling replicas/fakes.The scarab itself has remained in the little case it came in when I purchased it in either'03 or'04 for approx $300- $400.00.The drill hole through the scarab is not perfect in size,nor does it fully line up from one end to the other,which is the way it should be.Modern fakes will have a drill hole that goes straight through perfectly lined ... moreup because they'll use a modern drill.I'm basing the authenticity of this scarab off the letter and the reputation of the Barakat Gallery,and all the research of ancient egyptian scarabs that I've done over many years through books,photos and viewing real ones in museums.Scarab shows alot of wear and has very worn red dye in places,most of it though has worn off.It measures slightly over 1/4" long x just under 1/4" high,very tiny.I tried to crop each picture for the closest view I could obtain with my camera without making it blurry,tiny size made it difficult. I want to further note that the reason I fully researched the Barakat gallery before purchasing this scarab is because I had bought a so called genuine scarab off another site before I bought this one.When I received it,it was anything but authentic.It looked too new,showed no signs of wear,the drill hole was perfect and it appeared to have been cast with some sort of plaster.Scarabs were used in every day life in ancient Egypt,most were worn as rings or on a necklace and would have a piece of twine strung through the drill hole,so wear of that area in particular is an important thing to look for.
