These artifacts were originally designed to be enjoyed by their owners and I have tried to return these treasures to a state which will both charm and enchant their new owners and show the skill and craftsmanship of old. A Great Example! This ring was found at a Roman site in Ancient Thracia and dates from 500- 700 AD and it's engravings are Byzantine in style. The bezel is a thick rounded shape that measures 12mm X 11mm and has a lipped edge to it. This ring gives us a nice motif of an early Christian cross. The design on the bezel is a well executed"Trefoiled" Cross. The term"trefoil" refers to the three circles ... moreat the end of each arm of the Cross. This is a pattern that was added to the Cross to represent the Holy Trinity. This is a nicely executed and noticeable Cross. This design was done expertly and remains almost as crisp and clear as the day it was made. I believe that this design was done on a much older ring which is most probably from the Roman Era. Because of the bezel shape and the remains of bulbous shoulder escutcheons. It's original Pagan design was replaced with a more desirable Christian motif. This ring is 100% complete and both the color and shine are 1st Rate with only a minor amount of surface pitting. It was common practice for Roman Legionaries to carry pieces of"liberated" jewelry in their purses for use as hard currency when on campaign.
