Important Ancient European Bronze Age Full-Handled Sword - 1400 B.C.
An Important European Bronze Age full-handled sword. With scabbard, dating to around 1400 B.C. The bronze blade of long leaf-shaped form. With subtle mid-ridge and beveled edges. The hilt with C-shaped guard, with six circular rivet caps and profusely incised. The oval pommel with prominent knob and decorated with incised work. The scabbard chape and attachment plates surviving as shown, both decorated with repoussé work. Swords such as this were used in central Europe during the Bronze age. This example is of a type found almost exclusively in Southern Germany. Of which only two complete examples are known. The preservation of the scabbard is apparently unique. It has 1 primary point of articulation being the cylinder shade assembly which can rotate from side to side reflecting light. CONDITION: Overall the lamp is in exceptional condition. There are light signs of normal use with no dings. Dents or scratches. The lamp parts are all Bronze or Brass(with the exception of the cast iron base weight} which shows faint surface wear and tarnish from handling. The lamp retains an original spin switch fixed to the base assembly which is electrically sound and functions safely.
