Here we have a large steatite scarab that is still set on it's original bronze ring. The scarab itself measures 2.4cm x 1.8cm and the bronze ring measures approximately 4cm in diameter. The design on the scarab is that of four Uraerus cobras sitting on coiled tails and the hieroglyphic symbol for"Lord. The Uraeus represents"protection. Lord" could represent a king. A well crafted. Authentic ancient Egyptian faience shabti, dating to Egypt's Late Period, approximately 664- 323 B.C. Nicely modelled. The figure is shown wearing the tripartite wig, beard of Osiris and holding agricultural implements; the hoe and pick. This shabti(ancient Egyptian"shawabti" Was a funerary figure, placed in the tombs of wealthy individuals that, on account of its human appearance would fool the gods into thinking that the shabti was the deceased! This was important as all Ancient Egyptians might be required to perform manual labor in the afterlife, if summoned. So it became common practice among the highly religious and superstitious elite to place small figures(sometimes as many as 300) in their burial chambers, that could be substituted for themselves if need be. Thus manual work could be avoided, the shabtis"coming ... moreto life" if called and performing the work themselves. The shabti is made from Egyptian faience. Which is a composit material somewhere between ceramic and glass, composed of crushed, fired quartz and prized in ancient times for its beautiful glaze. The glaze is a blue- green. The Wedjat eye was prevalent from the old Kingdom up to the Roman period and is found in many forms. Representing the the eye of Horus. It is a powerful talisman used mainly for the prevention of malign influences, but also for healing since according to Egyptian mythology when Horus offered his plucked and healed eye to Osiris, it restored him back to life. The condition is mostly good, showing great age and wear overall, about 14 mm wide, 4 mm in thickness and about 11 mm from top to bottom. The stringing hole runs horizontally across the top of the pendant but the hole is blocked with debris on one side.
