It's unmarked as to maker. I think it's likely circa early to mid-1900s. I believe it's in original condition. It has one interior. Multi-sectioned drawer on hinges(in need of minor repair-see below) It's constructed of walnut veneer with cedar lining, and secondary hardwood(s) The back is unfinished. Wonderful for storage and display or seating, it's both beautiful and superbly useful. CONDITION: Overall. I think it's in nice vintage condition. Solid and sturdy. Only the tiniest bit of veneer loss that I can see: a few tiny chips along the back edge. Minor nicks, imperfections normal to vintage furniture. It does have some flaws: 1) the top surface has superficial scratches and age-related splits in the veneer(but they seem shallow enough to me that I think just polyurethane(were the top refinished) and/or a walnut-tone pore filler would be enough to fill them for a flawless(or nearly so) top. 2) In the interior. Lid, left side, the wood affixing the screw supporting the pull-out shelf is stripped(please see photos; the drawer is just propped in place in the photo) so is in need of this repair. I'd probably suggest filling the oversized hole with wood scraps and glue to fill, then redrilling the hole(possibly a larger screw would work) this is left to the buyer. 3) The locks on these old chests pose a safety hazard to children(won't open from within; children can suffocate inside) and can't be sold with the lock in place. I've removed and discarded it. Leaving just the hardware(for aesthetics) so it simply opens and closes, and can be opened from inside. For sale is a vintage collectible black metal lined wood trunk. The exterior features a well patinated appearance giving it the feel of a well storied life. This trunk has heavy duty metal corners and latches. It also has some brass reinforcements. The original lock is broken and does not come with a key. The lock has been disabled and cannot lock. Antique / Vintage 19.5" Dovetailed Wooden Chest / Box
This is an Antique/ Vintage 19 1/2" Dovetailed Wooden Chest/ Box. The chest has a hinged lid with scalloped edges. The base of the box measures 19 1/2" x 10 1/2" x 9 1/8" The body of the box exclusive of the base measures 18 1/2" x 9 1/2" x 6 5/8" The depth of the box on the inside is 8 1/2" The corner joints are curved finger joints. Often colloquially called dovetails(dovetails have a triangular profile whereas finger joints have parallel, horizontal edges) The box has a dark finish on the outside with a nice patina of age. The inside is unfinished. We do not know the type of wood. Perhaps you can tell from the appearance of the finished outside and the unfinished inside. The bottom of the box is made from a 1/8" thick sheet of plywood. On one photo of the inside you can see some wooden strips ... moreor shims. It is possible that the bottom was damaged and replaced and these were part of the repair. But we do not know for sure. The box has a lock but. As found, there is no key. There is what appears to be the remnant of a paper label on the back inside panel as seen. The front inside panel also had some sort of paper covering and there are remnants of this at several place. The chest was purchase in England. We assume it was probably made there. But we do not know for sure, nor do we know specifically what its age is. This is a great looking antique/ vintage chest would be a great piece of decor. And it could also serve a variety of utilitarian purposes as well! Condition The chest is overall in nice condition but there are several issues to be noted: The bottom panel may or may not have been replaced. With attendant inside support repair, as discussed above, and the box is offered as found/ as seen/ as described with respect to this issue. The box is offered as found with respect to the missing key for the lock There is a crack along the base panel on one end as seen. Marked with several arrows. Vintage Toy Box Blanket Chest Shabby Cottage Hand Painted Folk Art 24 Long x 16 Deep x 13 High This is a well constructed chest trimmed with moldings and vintage metal cup handles. It would be a lovely place to store toys. Extra blankets, sweaters or whatever you need to store It could be used as a little side or coffee table or at the end of a twin bed. The cover sits nice and tightly despite a chip under the hinge in the back. I do not know how old or who painted this chest. I was first drawn to it when I saw the molding as it looked like an antique ice chest I have had for years. The decorative painting and handles could have been added later. I think it is oak or ash. I forgot to take a picture of the unpainted bottom before I packed it for shipping. Its not pine. It has a lot of grain. As you can see in the pictures this is a shabby ... morelooking piece. The paint has crazing. The handles have some rust, there are ring marks on the top and there are some small chips. It is still very cute and if you like naturally aged things you will like this piece. I packed it very well wrapping it in bubble. Shrink wrap and paper to try and keep the weight down. The box I found weighed 5 lbs so this seems like a better method. Please feel free to ask any questions. I charge buyers the actual USPS shipping costs with no hidden shipping or packing fees.
