I took this to the Antique Road Show about ten years ago to have it appraised. The watch expert said this is a rare piece and he had never seen one of these in person. And was at a loss to determine the value. His"guess" of the value of the watch was $450-500. It measures 2 1/4" wide X 2" long. I had it professional cleaned and checked two months ago. And it keeps perfect time. It also has a second hand timer at the 6:00 o'clock position. The pin on the cane works perfect and has a safety clasp. The ball swivels under the top hat. He was quite revered in the jewelry community, and made many exclusive pieces for movie stars through the years. He finally retired in Reno, NV and died of lung cancer in 1997. I inherited the remaining portion of his estate. This is a Vintage Wood ROUND TOP TABLE. The table top tilts and rotates. The top is about 33 1/4 inches in diameter. Overall height of the table with the top level is about 28 1/2 inches. It has a three leg pedestal base with birdcage on top. The top was refinished at some point in the past. It has wear and scratches and can use a refinishing again. This may be a good time to refresh the whole table. The hinge that releases and retains the top functions properly. Antique Early Round Top Double Window Beehive Mantle Clock S.C.G.R. Clock Co.
What you are looking at here is a very unusual round top clock. It is an early japanese mantle clock from likely around the 1880's. This is NOT a new junky chinese clock. But instead is a rare, antique, and fine quality clocks. This clock was manufactured by the S.C.G.R. clock company in japan. And features beautiful reverse painted panel on the lower glass, and a hand painted tin dial. The front door has brass fitting on it, which is quite unusual. Everything on this clock is in great condition, as you can see from the pictures. The reverse painting appears to be original. The door can be locked from a keyhole in the side of the case, which is a feature usually used on higher quality clocks. The original paper label is even in beautiful condition on the inside of the clock, as well as a sales sticker, very old in paper can still be seen ... moreon the back of the case. Presented here is a genuine antique Queen Anne American made early Candlestand in the tilt top snake foot style so fashionably conscious in the candle power era of the country when light was a precious resource after sunset. Enter the Candlestand into the home and hearth at the ready! The 17.25" round diameter mahogany flip top rests upon a long elegant turned single bracelet. Lower urn shaft typical of the period in simple design, ending in trifid snake feet with padded bottoms all in the same dark West Indian mahogany that was imported for use in the colonial cabinet making shops. The age most certainly is 18th mid century, and no later in period form than 1810 or so when clunkier Sheraton styles in lighter maple crept into style as towns grew along with demand for household furniture. The legs are properly ... moredovetailed into the shaft with a reinforcing iron bar that prevents leg breakage and splits over time, and retains the original fancy hold down clip. It stands 28" tall easily moveable around a room to follow the sunlight until darkness necessitates using a single candle atop. Nice old mellow patina as original and found from a Mid Atlantic estate farmhouse. Condition Report: Two tiny dings in top. Slight crooked tilt to upright top with age shrinkage. Slight finish peel on upright shaft of old shellac. Shellac is actually made from a bug.it lasts only 100 years before it begins to peel on old surfaces. All original parts. No refinish. High bidder acknowledges this is not new. The hat is a a size Medium but measures on sweat band front to back 7 3/8" and side to side 6 1/2" This is only by my measurements.
