The hand wrought ironwork is beautifully done and in good condition for its age with only a small piece missing from the back bottom corner as shown in the photographs. It retains its original lock, hinges and a key that is likely original and all are in good working order. The lock will only remain in the unlocked position when the key is inserted and turned to the horizontal position. If the key is removed, the lock will automatically lock when the lid is closed. There is a beautifully wrought twisted iron bail style handle on the top for carrying and there is an iron ring attached near the base at each side presumably for tying the box in place when travelling. Please view all of the photographs- the condition is superb for its age however there are some cracks to the wood from age and normal wear and tear appropriate for a chest that is approximately 500 years old. It measures 21 1/2" long. 14" wide and 10 1/2" tall. Don't pass up this opportunity to add a lovely and rare old piece to your collection or your home decor.
