ANTIQUE 1900's GIRMSCHEID 1/2L Hunting Stein FRISCHER TRUNK LABT JÄGERBLUT #707
Up for auction is a superb MATTHIAS GIRMSCHEID lidded b eer stein. This is an earthenware stein. It has the traditional raised relief design. Which is hand painted and features a hunting scene of a man and his dog and rifle out in the forest w ith a couple of deer and stag on alert. An e laborate forest with pine and oak trees. Oak leaves, and acorns cover the body of the stein painted a dark green. There is also a boar's head and bugle. On one side of the stein is written" Frischer Trunk L abt Jägerblut" and on the other side is"T hut auch andern Leute u gut. Wh i ch translates as" A drink refreshes a hunter’s blood" and"I t also does good for other people" The pewter lid has a detailed raised floral relief. The hinge is an open five ring design common after circa 1895. The bottom of this piece ... moreis embossed with the mold number"707" and"Germany" There is also embossed a date code of" 7" and a"crossed check" mark that is most likely a quality control mark. The mold number"707" is also on the stein body right above the handle(this is circled in blue in photograph 9) Below the rim is embossed the 1/2 liter capacity mark. This capacity mark is identifiable as a Girmscheid mark. This stein stands approximately 7 inches tall without the lid and 9-1/2 inches to the top of the pewter lid. It is approximately 2- 15/16 inches across the top rim and 3- 7/8 inches across the pedestal base. The capacity is in excess of 1/2 liter. This piece is in excellent used condition. And considering its age. It is in magnificent condition. The raised relief scene is in very good condition with a few scuffs of nicks to the design. These are circled in red in photographs 6. 7, and 8. There is also crazing on the interior of the stein and on the glazed portions of the exterior. Where the stein body is painted. Crazing is not visible. The pewter lid and hinge are in excellent shape. There is a little bit of movement(about 1 mm) where it is attached

A rare antique relief in the shape of a painters pallet. Depicting a hunting dog holding a rabbit. The dog can either be a German Shorthaired Pointer. Weimaraner or Vizsla. The patina shows some minor wear. It has a hook for hanging at the back. It measures approx. 8" by 5" The relief is done in high relief. I am showing this as a set of two. Wonderful Antique Spelter Statue, "Boy Hunting with his Dog", (Marble Base)
This is an antique spelter statue of a boy hunting with his dog. There are two felled birds at his feet, but you suspect his bow is missing and on his back there are indications where it would have been, having said that it's a very attractive figurine that stands very well on any shelf for display, it's approximately 14.5 cm's high, the base is 7.5 cm's in diameter, it's quite heavy with the marble base hence the postage I'm afraid.

History of Qum Rugs Qum is an ancient town in the Tehran region. Its carpet industry. However, was not established until the 1930's, when looms were set up within the town itself, not in neighboring villages as is more usual in Iran. As a comparatively new weaving centre. The town has no traditional designs of its own, but borrows instead from neighboring regions- in particular Senneh, Kashan and Esfahan. This is not to say that Qum rugs are without originality. They combine design elements from various traditions. Maybe the border of one with the field of another, to create unique patterns. The most popular patterns are the classic garden design; striped rugs in which lines of color and ornament run the length of the carpet; illustrative carpets depicting birds. The goblet has a large teardrop and wafer stem with a circular foot. And this particular type of goblet is referred to as a pokel or Gesundheitsglas. The goblet has a remarkable cut glass hunt scene with a stag and doe on one side, and a hound chasing a rabbit on the other. The scene displays various rocks, grass, and trees with birds flying in the sky as well. Antique/Vintage Ethiopian/African Leather Shield Battle/Hunting/Ceremonial
18 1/2" diameter. 6" deep. I picked this up out of the same estate as my Abercrombie and Frintz bocce ball set and the estate was loaded with old stuff. Outside display side of the shield is in very nice condition and has designs in the thick leather/hide. The back side has wear and looks rather bug eaten to the secondary thinner layer of leather covering and that also has designs in it that are different than the front. The handle is attached firmly and is sound and solid as is the shield itself. This would still ward off a nice blow. It looks like at one time this also had a leather strap attached that was anchored to the shield at 2 points on one side and 2 points the other. The remains of the old leather nots are still in the holes on the one side. This beautifully crafted and preserved Yanomami Hunting Bow was brought back from one of the earliest 1950s expeditions into the Amazon Rainforest to make contact with the primitive Yanomami tribe. It was presented to a close friend& colleague of my father. This gentleman I knew as' Uncle George' he was of Venezuelan/English parents and after the 2nd World War went back to South America to work as an expedition engineer for the newly formed Brazilian Indian Protection Service who were just beginning to make first contact with the Yanomami tribespeople in the rainforest. I recall the stories he told on his rare visits to our home. I would sit wide-eyed ... moreas he described the jungles. The wild animals and even wilder tribespeople with their poisoned arrows, blow-darts and exotic feather head-dresses! I would dream of going off into the jungle one day! The last time I ever saw him was in about 1963 or'64 when he came to the house with a mysterious long package wrapped in dried grasses& tied with string. He stayed for tea and I recall the sly smiles he gave me as he held this fascinating item in his hands. I kept wanting to ask what it was but I got warning looks from my mother- children still being'seen& not heard' in those days! As he stood to leave he turned to me& said"This is for you. It was presented to me by a tribal elder of the Yanomami in exchange for some iron tools when I was camp engineer on the first expedition. The tribesman said he had'killed many enemies' with it and I thought you would like to have it? I looked at my mother and I was almost in tears. As I was so afraid she would say that I couldn't keep it! Anyway. That's where this amazing object came from. He also said that it was very old, having been passed down through the tribe from father to son for generations

Beautiful intricate design/ measurements/ flaws: STAND: Measures 17” high with an 11” handle. 8” round x 2 3/4" high holder and an 5 1/2" base Handle has a fan design at the top as well as a beautiful intricate design throughout the rest of the handle that includes a bird flying down toward some berries The upper wide rim of the has a continuous design of hunting dogs running into the trees and brush raising the birds from there hiding place Spirals of leaves and flowers surround ... morethe lower wide/curved rim of the stand and the neck of the base The stand is in nice condition with some wear and could use a good cleaning CASTERS: Beautiful etched glass design on all casters– 5 have a similar design. 1 has a different design(looks like cattails) and I believe is just a tad bigger– may be a piece that was added after purchase to replace one that was broken(4) of the casters(with fanned top) measure 6 7/8” high x 1 3/4" square(w/the one just a tad bigger than 1 3/4" no chips. Cracks or breaks) There are(2) 3 1/2” stoppers- one of these stoppers has a chip off the top and a good size chip off the bottom. Both have otherwise minimal chipping(2) of the casters(with straight top) measure 6 1/2" high x 1 3/4" square- one of the casters has quite a few chips on the top rim– the other appears to have some buildup on the inside but not necessarily chipping{the lid is intact and I believe perhaps was not meant to be removed? There are(2) 1 1/2" silver shaker lids for these- one{as mentioned above} is attached to the caster however the top of the lid does unscrew– the other has the tip broken off and only sits on the caster but does not attach

Antique porcelain plate featuring French hunting scene with cobalt blue edge and gold trim. Appears to be hand painted. Back has no markings. Measures 9 5/8" in diameter. Some gold has worn off and center of plate has knife marks(see photos)
