This hall tree was refinished by the previous owner, and they did a really nice job. They strengthened the back of the mirror with support sticks as shown in the photos, too. It is tight and sturdy, scroll front legs, lift top seat, applied carving on the base and shapely mirror top. The overall size is 36 inches wide on the outside of the arms, 29 inches wide on the inside of the arms, 17 inches deep, 18 inches high to the seat, 28 inches high to the arms and the overall height is 84 inches. Juliana Force, described in a recent New York Times article as“imperious, homely and witty, with an erratic eye, a terrible temper and an absolute commitment to her cause” was a close friend of Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney and managed most of her artistic and charitable enterprises. According to the new book“Rebels on Eight Street. Juliana Force and the Whitney Museum of American Art” by Avis Berman, she was almost as responsible for creating the Whitney Museum as its namesake. Illustrating a variety of religious holloware, accessories, jewelry and accoutrements, including cruet sets with glass inserts, monstrances, bells, crosses, caskets(both in traditional forms and in the forms of cathedrals with glass sides) and jewelry, including crowns and flaming hearts. Many of the pieces of all types are noted as having enamel decoration, and many come with inlaid pearls or gems. All are tinted gold in the plates. Each page illustrates the(unidentified) manufacturer's mark, a square with a star above the initials ET. The only text given are the dimensions, item numbers, ... moreand notes about enamel, etc. The pages appear to have been assembled from two separate issues- one set of plates is just slightly smaller than the other and they have different printer's marks. Antique Victorian Micro Mosaic Festoon Necklace - Victorian Antiques
Beautiful and unique antique Victorian micro mosaic necklace. It features tiny glass mosaic tiles which make up tiny motifs of flowers feather/fan shapes and detailed patterns. Three of the drops are Etruscan in style and two have a rope framed edge. The necklace would have been made around 1880 and features a fine delicate herringbone chain with a simple hook finish. These necklaces were often bought on holiday to Italy and treasured or sent back as a gift. The way we might have sent post cards later on in time. This one is in amazing condition for its age with only one note of"damage" one of the drops side tiles have sunken in slightly but i can't find any missing, which is important as they'd be near impossible to replace. Beautiful Vintage Victorian Brass Birdcage With Stand and two stuffed finches. Made in USA by A.B. Hendryx& Co. New Haven, CT. 228, USA. All brass with cast iron base. Nice heavy vintage piece. Old spring hanger. Wooden perch. Door that opens. Tray clips on with brass clips. Cage, stand and base have some bumps and bruises as all vintage pieces do. Not perfect but a very rare and unique old piece. Top of hoop stand swivels 360 degrees so that you can move it around. Very beautiful. Probably from the early 1900's to 1930's or somewhere around there.You won't see one of these very often. Stand measures about 62 inches tall about 21 inches wide by about 9 1/2 inches deep at the base of the stand.
