And has about 3 old coats of paint: Barn red(earliest) then Blue, then BLACK(newest, but still an old coat of paint) Several places have the paint worn. Revealing earlier colors, and some places even revealing the Walnut wood. MORTISED construction. Arms, seat, etc. SEAT is 2-Board. With the one board approx 75% of the seats width. The BACK SLATS are THICK, solid wood, CURVED to accomodate backs, and mortised into the back board section of the seat. BOTTOM is BRACED by a long. LENGTHWISE STRETCHER, which in turn has 4 Perpendicular braces. WOOD is THICK. And entire bench is SOLID, THICK, and not at all a flimsy bench! SIZE: SEAT is 6" long. 19" deep. Large Oak Bench ~ 8 Feet ~ from Town Hall In Bristol, England
This is another interesting piece I haven't been able to get around to customizing and so am offering at a low auction start price. I was told this oak bench came from a town hall in Bristol.it is 95" long and has a relatively slim& short profile(21" deep x 38.5" high) This is totally useable as seating but also has lots of possibilities as"filler" for those challenging narrow decorating spaces- such as a hall or entryway. We had it piled with books under a window in a pass-through room. Really nice grain on the legs. Upholstery has a tear. Stain, etc and some of the nailhead trim is missing; however it is comfortable and a relatively easy re-upholstery project. Some legs have been reinforced with L brackets- there are no wobbles and anyone with basic carpentry skills should be able to tighten and re-glue ... moreit. Pictures are part of the description. Carved Oak 1885 Combination Hall Bench& Bookcase. Hand carved in Germany about 1885. This combination hall bench and bookcase is all original. Spiral columns flank wavy glass doors, shelves inside adjust on wooden supports. The finish is very well preserved with a little wear and stains on the seat for antique character. Waxed and polished. Only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its warm patina. Doors have working locks and there is a second storage compartment under the seat. Mahogany window seat hall bench upholstered in Scalamandre cut silk velvet
Handsome mahogany window seat or hall bench upholstered in Scalamandre's Pomfret( 26692-012) velvet. The velvet alone sells for $229.50 per yard- see my screen shot from Scalamandre's website. The bench and upholstery are in good condition. The ends or arms of the bench have a little bit of wiggle to them. But the bench is sturdy. One side of the bench appears to have been sat upon more than the other and so is a bit more"squished" than the other side. In my opinion. The bench is at least turn of the 20th century, if not older. I have not removed the dust cover from the underside to see the construction. Note that I have rotated the bench 180 degrees for photos. So both sides and both ends are shown.

It was made in the Stickley era. It's unmarked. The wood is in very good condition, there are a few areas of wear. There are 1 or 2 areas where the joints seem slightly loose- definitely not too loose, like you can sit on the bench. But just, slightly wiggly. I'm not a carpenter or a wood guy, so I didn't want to try and tighten them. The leather cushion is clearly in disrepair. It would need to be restored in order to make it look nice. It has springs on the underside. Here are the measurements at the various parts: front edge of left arm to front edge of right arm is 51" wide- back edge of left arm to back edge of back ... morearm is 43 1/2" wide- seat back itself is 43 1/4" wide- height is 37 3/4" depth is 21 3/4" For the cushion. This is a great hall bench made by Merklen Brothers in New York City. 1885 to 1890, in good original finish. Minor repairs and gluing of the joint were made plus it has been cleaned and waxed. Spiral turned legs and stretchers, barley twist strands woven into lattice work in the back, carved talon and ball feet. Offered is this stunning ornate wrought iron hall or window bench. All hammered heavy iron(not cast) with chased copper and gold accents on the seat apron. Weighs a ton! About 80 or 90 pounds. The design is very Gothic. Spanish mission revival or French style. Would work great with arts and crafts styles. Probably made in the 1920's or 30's and I'm not entirely certain what the origin is. Measures 28" long by 20" wide and is 26" high to the arm rests and seat height is 16" Condition is excellent with minor rust or patination in the steel. No damage, breaks or repairs. The carvings are spectacular and command attention yet subtle that they are not overdone for your decor. The wood is chestnut and is fine in color I've taken pictures inside and out to give you the true color as best I can. The size is also remarkable in that it can fit in most any entry way or bedroom you name it this is the size most want as it is isn't overpowering. 48" wide by 18" depth by 32" to the handrail and 36" to the top of the crown on the figural carved Henry II King of France from 1547-1559. He had many ties to Brittany thus the fine figural carved motif on this bench. You will be amazed at how difficult it has become ... moreto find good antiques such as these in this type of condition. The bench seems to be all original as far as I can tell. the crown on Henry II has some wear as this is where one would place their hands, to be expected to see normal wear in the correct places such as this. Four faublous intricately carved Griffin panels two on each side and two in the back. The part I was most impressed with is the top when you stand near this bench the carving are easy to see and you don't have to bend to see them like many where they are usually only on the front or back or lower portion.
