The back is attached to the base with solid reeded arms. The front of the arms are carved with acanthus leaves. The seat is hinged and reveals a useful large storage area below for shoes or boots. The central frame carving to the front of the bench below the seat depicts“Bacchus” The Greek god of wine and fertility. Surrounding this are floral carvings. To the front and sides of the base there are pretty inset carved oak panels. The bench is built using peg construction. Antique 1900's Ball Stick Arts & Crafts Solid Oak Hall Tree Coat Rack Seat WOW!!
Up or auction is an INCREDIBLE antique late 1890's-1920's Arts& Crafts Ball& Stick solid oak hall tree. This is a wonderful example of ball and stick design. There are 5! beveled glass mirrors and wonderful carvings to go with the top. Middle and lower ball& stick galleries. So much work went into this. There is a hammered brass umbrella stand with barley twist bars to hold the tops. There are WONDERFUL Eastlake style coat hangers all present and matching. The are mounted to turned wood disks that float with sticks inside a wood frame. There is a real show piece hand carved oak detail of raised rectangles at the main center that is just incredible to think it was hand carved. Two matching sun ray designs are above and below the mirror. Lastly there is a wonderful little drawer below the seat with telling joinery that dates ... morethis to the machine age. The corner joints are routered pins and holes in half round circles(Anyone who knows the name of this joinery I would love to know) This piece measures 83" tall x 29" wide x 16" deep. It is not a huge piece. In fact I believe the top crown to have been added to give height to this piece. I only have a very slight color change to go by and VERY WELL may be wrong but perhaps the house this was going into needed a little more height. There are little flame points at the top and ball and stick with the square posts matching perfectly so it is an old addition if at all. You can see how it would look with out it as this comes right out of its four mount holes. This is a piece to see in person. For sale is a beautiful walnut hall mirror with beveled glass and marble seat. Overall. The hall mirror is in okay condition. The parts of the seat base and top require gluing, but are not broken or missing. We don't know the age of the mirror, but certainly early 1900's. The walnut wood is in perfect condition. As is the marble seat. The mirror would require to be re-silvered if purchaser wished, but this adds to the character and demonstrates the age of the beautiful beveled glass! The dimensions of the piece is: approximately 91" tall. 27" at the widest points, and 11.5" deep. The marble seat is 18" above the floor. Due to the delicateness of this piece and the glass. Unusual antique quartered quarter sawn oak hall seat with doors---14940
This is certainly a beautiful quartered quarter sawn oak hall bench. Unusual in design as most had a lift top seat under which you could store your boots. Gloves or whatever. This model has instead two doors under the seat to gain access to the storage area. This is only the second hall seat I have ever had with this design. We have refinished this piece and it is in excellent condition with a smooth and even finish. Nice size at 37 wide, 19 deep, and 35.5 high. This is a very nice golden oak hall bench which in England they call monks bench. Condition is very good and sturdy. This was made in England early 1900s. You can have this as a hall seat then turn the top into a table, great storage when you lift up the seat lid.
