This nicely designed tile is a little gem. 4" x 8" It is an excellent example of good British relief sculpture. The frame just hugs the edges and the resulting object has nice depth.The classical woman, Greek or Roman, seems to be in a window or doorway. The frame is 1 1/2 inches deep. The gold trim adds to the illusion of depth. The tile can be removed from the frame by peeling some tape and pulling out some pins.

Stunning antique Victorian English Majolica tile moulded in high relief with a very beautiful glaze color in rich browns of intertwining vines and leaves weaving around a stylised flower to the center. The high relief moulding is very crisp and sharp with excellent detail. Circa 1895. The tile is in very good condition. A few small chips along edges/corners. As well as a few small surface chips. Very light crazing. Superb glaze brilliance with wonderful depth of color. The back has some light cement residue, but overall is clean and free of chips and is embossed: Providential Tile Works, Trenton N. J. The tile is 6” x 6” and is 1/2” thick. Between the years of 1879 and 1936. The American Encaustic Tiling Company Limited produced tiles with mosaic, comedic, nature, wildlife and human subject matter. Many of these tiles were manufactured with embossed motifs which today are more commonly referred to as relief, low relief and high relief tiles. This particular example is a 6" X 6" tile which were used most commonly on fireplace mantle facings and kitchen splashes. This 1/2" thick, high relief tile, consists of mauve/burgundy glaze and is fired with a high gloss finish. It has a swirled and ribbed line motif all of which variate in length and thickness and emanate from a center core surrounded by pebble like shapes. It has sharp and crisp detail and the relief gives it substantial depth. On the back is the maker's mark with raised letters designating A.E. Tile ... moreCo. Limited. Purchased by a collector in 1973. There is a hand written note on the rear of the tile which documents his acquisition in"Isphahan" Iran which is Isfahan, Iran and located south of Tehran. This spelling was a more common spelling for English speaking visitors during the 20th century. This is one of three heavy hand made and hand painted great Persian/ Middle Eastern/ Islamic tiles that I am listing in addition to a few other cool items from the same area of the world and estates from here in the Charleston area. The tile is probably late 19th century to early 20th century and is absolutely gorgeous! The colors are vibrant and the hand painted tile is detailed and expressive. This is a lovely antique green glazed ceramic tile made by the Cambridge Tile Co. in Ohio. It has the face and upper body of a young girl with long curly hair and a lacy dress in raised relief. I am also listing another tile this week which goes with this one. But has a young boy on it. I would be happy to ship both them together to you if you are interested in both. The tile is 4 1/4" by 4 1/4" square and 7/16" thick. It is in excellent condition. With no chips, cracks, or crazing, but there is a rough area on the bottom edge of the ruffle of the girl's dress, where it feels like a little of the glaze has worn off. Old American Encaustic Tile Baby Boy Raised Relief
Up for your consideration is an old American Encaustic Tile. It is a sweet picture of a baby boy. It is done in a raised relief in different shades of green. It measures 6 1/8 x 6 1/8 x 1/2. There is a lot of crazing on this tile but the sweetness of the boy still shines through. The top left corner has a large chip in it which as some point was colored in black. This auction is for a VERY unique mythological pictorial GLASS TILE in Relief. It depicts two nudes figures.a male Satyr playing a flute with a goat beside him and a female nymph dancing. There are vines. Trees, and flowers in the scene. It has wear on the raised areas, consistent with age and handling. There is one shallow chip on the side(shown in the last photo) that really isn't noticeable when looking at the tile from the front. Other than that, when looking at the tile through a loupe, I noticed a few tiny flakes along the edges. Measures 4" x 4" This tile would look beautiful framed! I have searched eBay and the internet and have been unable to find anything similar to this tile. Any information that might help to identify this piece or more accurately describe it. Antique Trent Tile Company Signed Tile Concentric Circles in Relief Framed
Up for bid is a lovely embossed relief ceramic tile made by the Trent Tile Company. The tile itself measures 6 1/8" x 6 1/8. It has been professionally framed. But can easily be removed or unbracketed. Together with frame, it measures 8 5/8" x 8 5/8. The back is signed"TRENT" in embossed letters. The Trent Tile Company was founded in Trenton. NJ is 1882 and made decorative embossed tiles in a variety of rich glaze colors until 1939. FRONT CONDITION: The front of the tile is in great condition considering it's age and has a nice. Allover crazing. There's a bit of surface wear on a few of the raised dots of the center circle, but these are barely noticeable. There are also some small chips along the edge of the tile, but these are covered up by the lip of the frame. The only one that is not covered up is a tiny nick ... moreon the edge of one of the circles, but since it is close to the edge of the frame, it'd hardly noticeable. Please view images CAREFULLY. BACK CONDITION: The back is also in great condition. Except for a small chip on the edge of one of the corners. This chip impacts one of the back corners and sides, and not the front of the tile. At one time it was mounted because there's a bit of grout residue on the back. I have posted images of the tile in and out of it's frame to show all surfaces of the tile. Vintage Handmade Fish Tile Relief with hallmark.
This red clay fish tile has relief of jumping fish and was hung on the wall. It is marked with a heart shape as seen in the photo but I don't know who to attribute it to. There are 2 holes for hanging. This piece had been broken but nicely glued and I only now realized that defect after hanging in my home for many years.

Maw & Co Tile With Julius Caesar Moulded in Relief Green Majolica Glaze
This magnificent Green Tile was made by the Maw& Co. Tile Works in England in the Mid 1800s.circa 1875) It is in remarkable condition for its age. The front is flawless. With no chips, cracks or scrapes. The two bottom corners have very small nicks at the edge( I tried to show them in my photos) and there are tiny nicks around the edges that are so small they are hard to see. You have to run your fingers around the edge to know that they are there. The portrait in Dark Green of Julius Caesar is moulded in high relief and has a rich majolica glaze. It has a subtle character crazing, that adds wonderful detail to the tile. It is approx. 5 7/8 inches square, and is 1/2 inch thick. The back is impressed M A W& Co. MAW in a circle with the word FIOREAT above and SALOPI under. BROSELEY and SALOP are impressed on separate lines under the ... moreMAW circle. There are some stains on the back, but in no way detract or affect the beautiful front of this tile. It comes from a pet free, smoke free home. This tile is quite heavy, weighing 1 lb. 5oz. before packing.

USA Date: c 1883 Notable features: This dark blue high relief tile was made by the Zanesville Majolica Company of Ohio. They were in business only 2 years- 1882-1884. And very few pieces ever circulate. This tile features a woman sitting at a desk in a beautifully appointed room- judging by the bullseye glass window tucked in an arch. This area seems to be a gothic designed alcove. Her chair is elaborately carved, and the tiled floor has a raised tiled platform. She tends to her needle work. A young girl stands near her, cradling her pet rabbit, ... moredressed up, with perhaps her mother's drawstring purse as accessory. A toddler boy sits at her feet pulling his wheeled wooden toy horse, with stick serving as whip. This has darker blue pooled glaze in the upper area. Superb details. This tile is clean all around and unused. It is perfect for framing or to add to a collection of rare historical American ceramics. SIze: 9.25" x 12.75" Condition: A thin 1/4" chip on lower front right. Another chip/flake.38" widest by.75" long. but thin- to the top left back(as seen from the front) A couple of very thin nicks to the back edge. No other cracks. Chips, hairlines, breaks or repairs. Some crazing seen on inspection in the darkest pooled glaze up at the top. Bits of pebbles in the glaze on the back. All of these are seen in photos. Up for consideration is a fine pair of continental tiles inset in their original oak frames. The tiles themselves measure 6 by 12 inches. The overall dimensions are about 11 1/2 wide by 17 1/2 inches tall. The scenes are quite charming with 2 children playing along the waterway with a house etc.the pieces are sculpted deeply with great attention to detail. The tiles are a high lustre meaning they are fairly glossy and are slightly iridescent. No chips or cracks.just some very light checking. Up for sale is a very unusual tile depicting horse racing. It is done in bas relief and has great detail. You can see the horses manes blowing from their speed and the jockeys riding them. It is in shades of rusty reds. Browns and cream. This tile is in beautiful condition, with no chips, cracks or dings. I'm not sure of the material, but if I had to guess, I'd say chalkware.
