Beautiful rare antique Merkel hand painted porcelain tile of a young boy in excellent condition in a lovely original gold frame with crown molding detail. Great detail and color. No chips. Crazing, cracks or losses of any kind. Label on back of tile reads KUMSTINSTITUT FUR PORZELLAN MALEREI MERKEL-HEINE WIESBADEN. There is an impressed mark 115 and hand written in pencil 1489. There is also a handwritten label which I am unable to read and have pictured. I believe it may be the artist. Labels at the edge attach the tile to the frame. These labels are for Foster Brothers, 4 Park Square, Boston. The gold cardboard backing is held in place with brass nails. It is secure but some of the nails are missing. Westraven Utrecht porcelain cloisonne ship(galleon) tile. The vessel appears to be sailing in a storm- gray. Cloudy sky and acqua, billowy waves. The browns in the sail and ship hull are darker than they appear in the picture, due to the flash. The tile measures 5 x 5 inches. Wagner KPM Berlin Porcelain Plaque Tile of Ruth in Florentine Frame Description: This is a fine larger sized porcelain tile of Ruth by KPM(Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur) of Berlin. Germany. This plaque is signed Wagner lower right. Depicting Ruth in all her beauty, the quality of this masterpiece is exquisite, you can see every little detail in this hand painted plaque. Just look at the photos of her hair, so fine. The plaque is in its original Florentine frame which is quite large at 20" tall and very three dimensional. Size: plaque measures 9 1/2" x 6 1/2" The frame is 20" tall x 15" wide Age: 19th C. possibly early 20th C. Condition: The plaque is in fine condition with no chips. Cracks or repairs. When i get the tile in the right light at the right angle you can see some spotting ... moreto the clear protective glaze it's sort of like ghost spotting and I see this on many porcelain plaques, it is not an issue to view the plaque and look at it on a table naturally, just when closely inspected and pivoted at the right angles, if you have owned these plaques before, I believe you know what I am trying to explain. This is usually fixed with a professional porcelain cleaning. The frame was broken badly at one time and someone has reglued and repaired where necessary. It was glued together in the corners slight angle to itself as the tile will not sit down on the rabbet molding level it rocks corner to corner about 3/16" on two high corners. There are several areas that show fractures that were glued and areas of gilt touch up. Overall when placing on a table and viewing the package is gorgeous. The frame needs a little t.l.c. if you want it perfect, the tile is very nice, overall a very nice displayable package. The metal mounting frames the tile securely around the edge and has a curved handle on each end. There are four round feet which lift the tray off the surface of a table. The whole tray measures 16" X 10" and the tile alone measures 12" X 9 1/2" The tile has a hand painted country scene with an old wooden windmill and a farm house.
