Vintage Cushion Decorative Tile "Wheeling" with Black Metal Trivet
This vintage tile sets in a trivet that is made of metal and painted black. It is 1 3/4 inches from surface to top of tile. Beautiful antique look. The tile when it sets in the trivet is very nice and the trivet is sturdy. It has wear to it and if the metal trivet is painted it will look new. The tile underneath has aged and 2 very spots on surface corner. Tried to catch its wear in photos. McKusick Desert House Craft DHC Gila Pottery Tile Globe Az EAGLE FEATHER BLACK
The design is In the manner of feather/ bird/ eagle depictions on Hopi pottery. Possibly depicting a head and wing/ tail feathers of an Eagle. Measures 6 by 6 inches and 1.2 inch thick; cork back stamped: Desert House Tile& Pottery, Tucson, Dan& Bebe Lotz. White and terra cotta on a black background. Bob and Charmion McKusick of Gila Pottery was associated with Desert House Crafts in Tucson during the 1950s and 1960s. The ceramic products they produced were made entirely from the red clay that they dug out of the Pinal Mountain foothills. The grog they used as an additive to make the clay less prone to warping in the kiln firing was made from the milled schist found around their home. The McKusicks used a 13th century Moorish process where each home-made glaze color is applied individually in an inlay with a syringe. Their background ... morein anthropology and ceramic engineering. Plus a love of the desert, is obvious in their designs. They also used some Native American Indian artists in the design of their various tiles, including Daniel Nash, Oswald Fredericks, Beatien Yazz, and Pablita Velarde. Hopi Decorative Tile by Sadie Adams(Flower Girl. Flower Woman) Hopi-Tewa artisan who lived from 1905 to 1995. 3 inches by 5 inches. Rectangular, and approximately 1/8 inch thick. 1920 to 1995. There is a bit of the"fire clouds" effect on the bottom of the piece. Which would have occurred inadvertently during the firing with sheep dung. The tile is made of yellow clay and painted with brown and black pigments. There is a flower painted on the bottom in brown paint(the artist's mark? There is some writing in pencil on the bottom that was put there by the person who had this piece previous to my having it. To remind her when and from whom she purchased the piece; it indicates that she bought it from Jane Bell in the 1950's, but she doesn't remember who or where Jane Bell was. There are no defects or damage to this tile. ... moreOnly irregularities that occurred during its creation which add character; you can see that it was built by hand and there are several indentations that were left during the making of it. Vintage black Pomona tile cove base
Vintage architectural salvaged Pomona Tile 3 5/8 inches by 5 7/8 inches cove base tile in gloss black color. These old tiles are 3/8 inch thick. Cove base is designed to have tile installed on wall directly above this cove tile. The top of this cove tile does not have a bullnose edge. This tile was used in an old home for at least 50 years. And is not new. They will show signs of use and wear. They need cleaning. There is mortar remnants and grout remnants on the edges. Some tiles have small chips and scratches. Three tiles have a broken corner on one of the radiused edges, I believe these were used at corners. There is some mortar remnants, grout, and caulking on the edges and back that will need to be cleaned off before installing. Check the picture of the one I cleaned up. This item is probably best for those who appreciate patina, or ... morewant the tile to look like it has been in the house for many years. Vintage Kitchen Country Metal Black Frame Rooster Chicken Hen Wall Counter Tile
For your consideration is a set of vintage ceramic tiles set in black metal frames. The tiles have a rooster and chicken painted on the tile. I find no chips or cracks on either tile but they both have minor paint loss. Both have been in storage for many years. But would be great for that county kitchen. Each tile measurers 4 1/2” by 4 1/2” with the frames measuring 6 ¾” by 6 ¾” I have another set of vintage tiles listed so check out my other listings as I will combine shipping when I can. It has a cork back The original hang tab for hanging the tile on the wall is missing; would be very easy to replace. The front is in excellent condition. It shows a black cat with a tiny white behind circle walking thru a silhouette of black trees on a white path. The picture hung in the MMA and was designed by Rudyard Kipling. Vintage Minton's Stoke On Trent Aesop's Fables Tile "The Lion and The Rat" Black
This is the second of three Minton's tiles I have listed this week. This one is from their Aesop's Fables series entitled"The Lion and The Rat. The tile is done in black and is a 6" x 6" tile. The piece is marked on the back as seen in the listing photo. The tile's edges are rough to the feel and there are a few issues that must be pointed out. First there is a 1/8" x 1/4" shallow flake off the right. Upper, edge of the tile which is shown by the pointer in the listing photo. Secondly, there is a very, very tiny flake off the lower left edge which is also shown in the photos. The corners on the back side of the tile are rounded due to wear and there are a couple of flakes off the side of the tile shown in the last listing photo. No cracks or lines. This is a 7 sheet lot app. 11 1/2" x 11 1/2" of ceramic tiles. Total amount of tile pieces are 2.268 with each sheet containing 324 tiles in assorted shapes that make the pattern shown in the photos. The colors are white with gold flecks, black with gold flecks and a pink beige color with white flecks. The smallest tile is 1/2" square and the larger tile is 3/4" x 1" The webbing on the back of the tiles are coming off due to age so you may have to"puzzle" them back together. The tiles themselves are in excellent condition and have never been used. This is a pretty mosaic sheet of tiles that are true vintage mid-century. Shipping will be $13.00. Harding Black. San Antonio, TX c1940-1990 Revered San Antonio glaze master, ceramist and studio potter, Harding Black created this circa 1940′s 12-tile panel with Mother and Child. According to Norman Karlson’s research, Harding Black was the most humble, self-taught, devoted and inspirational tile maker America has ever known. He used very bright glaze colors painted between incised lines in the clay. His subjects were usually scenes from daily life in Texas and Mexico. Tile panels are very rare and collectible. The Mother Madona and the baby Jesus in a dramatic religious pose. Glazes have a combination of matte and satiny finishes. Each tile measures 6" square x 1/2" thick with overall measurements of 18" x 24" Considering the age of this panel. It is in very mint condition.
