16 Vintage Architectural Decorative Mid Century Modernism Mirrored 4" x 4" Tiles
Up for auction are 16 vintage mirrored architectural tiles recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia. PA area. Each tile measures approximately 4" x 4" in size. Each have a gold pattern of stars and diamonds in a repeating pattern. They are all found in good used condition. The only condition issue to report is a chipped corner on one tile and a rough side on another. It has a nice 50's look and would be great as a splash back in a mid century modern setting. At one time, they may have been self sticking but you will need an adhesive to mount these now. Will produce a very nice look where a mirrored accent is needed. WELCOME! You're bidding on a pristine pair of glazed tiles. Originally sent to the Midway Hospital Pharmacy in Los Angeles in 1960, but never opened(until now) or used. Each tile is 6" x 6" x 5/16" glazed in a high-gloss jet black with mirror-like gold decoration, backed with cork and an integral metal loop hanger applied by the Armstrong Cork Company of Los Angeles. One tile features the caduceus. An ancient Greek or Roman herald's wand. Typically one with two serpents twined around it, carried by the messenger god Hermes or Mercury, a design traditionally associated with the medical profession. The other shows beakers and test tubes. Apparently symbolizing chemical advances in pharmacology. Whether these made it to their intended destination or why they were never hung remains a mystery. But these would make a unique, ... morebeautiful, and special gift for anyone in the medical field. Still complete with their 53-year-old heavy paper sleeves and original mailing box(note the whopping 74 cents postage! An excellent pair of Harry Strong tiles circa 1970s/early 80s. Wonderful depictions of two women done on what appears to be enamel on brass. Original Harris Strong tiles. There is some surface wear to the glass. The tiles are in pristine condition. One of the corners of one of the frames has become separated. Though it remains sturdy and is ready to hang. They are in very good condition with no crack or chips and never been mounted on the wall. The black part is like basalt looking and rough to the touch feeling. The drawings are smooth and glazed. Lot of 33 NOS Vintage Mid-State Base Trim Tiles Pale Blue Mid-century Bathroom
Up for bidding is this New Old Stock lot of 33 tiles manufactured by the Mid-State tile company. These tiles are Pale Blue(Twilight Blue" is the official name of the color) and were manufactured some time in the mid-20th century. They're remainders from a bathroom remodel. And sat in their original box in the basement for many years. The original box has been discarded but I have included a photo of the box label. These are tiles like what you'd put on the base of a wall. Along the floor. They measure 6 3/8" wide and 4" tall. A few of the tiles may show signs of wear and handling but for the most part these seem to be in as-new condition. Some of the tiles have chips on the back edges. You are bidding on a wonderful lot of five vintage mid century modern Italian tiles. Three of the tiles were made by La Faenza and the last two were made Bemi Cres and a company with a crown over a R as a logo. The three tiles that have more details(in the same row) were made by La Faenza and feature some unique designs. It was hard getting a great photo of all five tiles without getting glare. Hence the different photos. The tiles could be used as trivets, decorative items, or simply framed and hung. They were purchased as a lot and I don't have much information other than that. It is a great piece in excellent condition with no nicks, chips or flakes. Absolutely perfect. Unsigned mid century pink ceramic tiles! These were stored with a bunch of other various mosaic general tile co. Tiles so I would guess they are that brand but I am not sure. This is an incredible lot consisting of: 62 quarter round tiles that are 6" in length for a total of 372" or 31 feet. 3 4.25"x4.25" square tiles 6 and two pieces of the dark red liner tiles.25" thick 7 pink and dark red striped liner tiles Not sure if these all originally went together but the colors are a perfect match. I have some additional pink tiles in a seperate listing that are a slight shade lighter than these.
