They have never been affixed to a wall. And may even be trivets, can be used as one, or would look wonderfully framed. Combined shipping is always available on multiple purchases from me. The Moravian Pottery and Tile Works was established by noted anthropologist. Antiquarian, artist, writer, and tile-maker Henry C. Mercer, a leader in the turn-of-the-century Arts and Crafts movement, in an effort to recreate early Pennsylvania pottery manufacturing techniques. In style, the Tile Works is an adaptation of the California Mission Church, partly chosen because Mercer believed good art came from religious faith; in construction it reflects the early use of reinforced concrete for industrial purposes. The Moravian Tile Works is his second building, constructed after the first was ... moredestroyed by fire. The name Moravian is derived from his collection of old Moravian stove plates. Mercer's factory produced tiles depicting Pennsylvania flora and fauna. Mercer was awarded a gold medal at the 1904 St. Louis Exposition and a 1921 gold medal from the American Institute of Architects. The Tile Works is owned by the Bucks County Department of Parks and Recreation and is open to the public as a museum illustrating Mercer's tile making techniques. The Moravian Pottery and Tile Works building is a short distance away from the Mercer Museum, and is a"U" shaped building constructed around an open courtyard. Built of reinforced concrete with concrete buttresses, measuring approximately 120 feet by 100 feet with arcaded court, it resembles a medieval cloister. The factory is 2 ½ stories built in tiers with towers. The gable roofs have rounded ridges of brushed concrete with steep parapets at the gable ends. Irregular chimneys and windows with a variety of decorative tiles are set in both exterior and interior walls. Selling a small. Artist signed Trent tile in a wood frame. Trent Tile was located in Trenton, New Jersey in the 1890s. The tile itself is 3 1/4" x 6" The wood frame is 6" x 8 1/2" The scene on the tile is of a sail boat with a house in the background. The signature I think is"Wood" and the date of the signature is 1913. The tape backing of the tile has come loose. It still has a seal from Woodward and Lothrop. Woodies was a major store in Washington, DC that is no longer in business. The tile is in good condition. The wood frame needs a little restoration. Offered for your consideration is this most unusual hand painted porcelain tile or wall plaque. It is painted in the Aesthetic style of the second half of the nineteenth century. A central scenic view of a boat on a lake is surrounded by the prettiest enameled floral motif of Queen Anne's Lace. The plaque is signed by the artist"E.O.P. but I have no other information. It measures 11" by 14" The back is glazed and the painted side has a matte finish. This piece is in very good estate condition. There is a crack in one bottom corner. It was reinforced by tape when I got the plaque and I did not remove it. Fortunately this is not a noticeable flaw and does not detract from this exceptional plaque. There is a bit of soil around the edges from framed-should clean off if desired. The tile is framed in a period frame with new ... morebacking. He's too good a ruler, thereby showing up the noblemen who gave him position, and doesn't last long in the job. This tile is in the original frame. Tile measures 5 7/8" wide and 7 7/8" tall. Frame measures approximately 9 3/4" wide and 11 1/2" tall. Signed by the artist, Rico, as shown. Condition of the tile is very good-to-excellent, with no apparent chips, cracks, or scratches. Some minor crazing under the glaze, around the signature. Tile is impressed on the reverse, as seen in the close up photo, with a circle containing the number 5, and the words"ONDA, MADE IN SPAIN. Four Handpainted Clay Tiles Tray Framed Picture Artist Signed
I am offering on Buy It Now a beautiful framed set of four pictorial tiles from a talented artist. Each tile is 5 1/2" square and they are framed in black metal. On the back there is a wire for hanging. But this grouping could be used as a tray as well. The four tiles together create a stunning floral picture with a little bird and fancy border. The central flower is a pink rose and there are small blue flowers and others in pink and gold. The fancy border is painted in gold, brown and blue and the artist Linda signed her work in the lower right corner. The tiles are in perfect condition. These were made in Portugal and then handpainted. The item was sold in Lewiston, NY and was later found at an estate sale. I have no other information about the artist or the age of these tiles.
