The side compartments are 20 inches wide and two shelves are behind each door. The center section is 31 inches wide and has three shelves. The overall condition is good. There are a few minor pieces of molding missing, one keyhole cover is missing, and is in good overall condition for being 130 years old. It has panel sides, carved columns, multi-molded edge on the breakfront and carved pillars. It is an impressive bookcase with a few minor issues. A total of 6 adjustable(2 for each section) removable shelves are found in this phenomenal bookcase/china cabinet. The dimensions of the 4 adjustable side section shelves are 10” in depth by 18” in width and the dimensions of the 2 adjustable center section shelves are 11 ¾” in depth by 23” in width. This item is in wonderful antique condition with only minor signs of age appropriate wear as pictured. The original antique bubble glass is free from breaks or damage which is very hard to come by. The backing to the upper unit looks to be lined in a off white colored wall paper and there is a red drip stain to this surface as seen in image#18 on the lower left side. The center top shelves have a depth of 11″ while the side shelves have a depth of 9.5″ and can be adjusted to one of three different positions via a brass pin system. The shelves in the lower cabinets do not adjust. All of the doors lock with the included key. The upper shelves were also made with plate grooves so you can easily stand and display fine plates if you choose. This mahogany breakfront bookcase was very well made. The four drawers all slide in and out effortlessly on their wooden runners. All the drawers were made with dovetailed joints. Dovetailing is also known as mortise and tenon joining and is the best and strongest way to make drawers. The pulls on this mahogany breakfront bookcase are a decorative brass swan neck drop pull. Instead of a plain top. The cornice is dentil moulded giving the bookcase added elegance. The full plinth base provides strength and support.
