This item is in wonderful antique condition with only minor signs of age appropriate wear as pictured. The original antique bubble glass is free from breaks or damage which is very hard to come by. The backing to the upper unit looks to be lined in a off white colored wall paper and there is a red drip stain to this surface as seen in image#18 on the lower left side. Wear to the finish on one of the shelves can also be seen in image#18. Breakfront measures 92"h x 72"w x 16"d in total. The upper unit measures 56"h x 70"w x 12"d. Crafted with significant influence from the French Directoire period. Implementing an austerity of form with lavish brass mounts, the design is as successful today in this reproduction as it was originally. The solid cherry shelves are graduated, each flanked by turned columns on the right and left, these footed and capped with brass fittings beneath a brass finial. The top shelf is edged with a pierced brass gallery. The entire form rests over bracket feet. An outstanding selection for any formal office or library. This is a wonderful little bookcase for anyone requiring a taste of Neoclassicism in their decor.
