MID CENTURY MODERN GEORGE NELSON CSS HERMAN MILLER WALL SHELVING UNIT & DESK
DESCRIPTION. Handsome and functional CSS two bay wall unit with desk designed by George Nelson and manufactured by Herman Miller. This versatile system measures 81" wide by 79" high when installed. It has beautiful walnut veneer on the cabinets and shelves. And a very pale gray formica desk top surface. This set includes: a 32" wide cabinet with two sliding doors a 48" wide cabinet with organizing shelves a 48" wide shelf with slots for bookend brackets 6 wire bookend brackets two 32" shelves 71" long by 29 1/2" wide by 29" high. Formica desk assembly with 2 drawer cabinet three 79" long black enameled poles three pole stabilizers all hardware for hanging shelves. Cabinets and desk Pictured with a Danish chair which has been sold. This listing is for the shelving system only. DIMENSIONS 81" ... morewide by 79" high when installed. CONDITION Good vintage condition. This does show signs of wear from use. The desk drawers open and close smoothly.There is no key for the locking mechanism, but the drawers are unlocked. The formica desk top is in excellent shape with only a couple of very tiny dings, but it does have small chips to the walnut veneer around the front and side edges. There is an ink stain to the front of the desk cabinet and some chips to the veneer on the drawers. The top of the organizing cabinet has several scratches and there are many tiny areas of bubbling to the veneer on the top of the sliding door cabinet. The previous owner cut the tops of the poles at a slight angle, the adjustable feet on the bottoms are all present. This is very structurally sound and sturdy, and the overall appearance presents very nicely. Please see all of the pictures below for more detail. Up for auction. Vintage Walnut Veneer George Nelson& Associates OMNI wall unit by Herman Miller. A beautiful and classic example of functional Mid-Century Modern design. Designed by George Nelson for Herman Miller. This modular wall unit can be configured many ways. These tension-mount systems were designed to serve as room dividers as well as wall units. The tension pole can be mounted anywhere in the room and need not be against a wall. The drop-down cabinets can be raised higher to be used as a laptop or writing desk. The shelving can be staggered at different heights to accommodate different needs. It is in 2 parts at the moment but can be put together to make one unit. In the following pictures. The first 2 shots are of the 2 units. The subsequent pictures show more details for both units. All measurements are approximate. HERMAN MILLER GEORGE NELSON VINTAGE CSS SHELF 32"
Some scratching around the hanging brackets and there are two pairs of drilled holes in the bottom of the shelf. Other than that. There's just some light scratching and wear that you would expect to see from a piece over 50 years old. The hanging brackets are in great shape with no bends or damage that would affect hanging the shelf. The shelf dimensions are 32" L x 12" D x 3/4" thick.
