This is a 12" globe that is attached to a wooden stand with a slot for an atlas. The wooden stand is 7.5"x11.5" Altogether it's about 15.5" from the bottom of the wooden stand to the top of the metal part. The globe does not have a year on it. But the latest year in the book is 1960. The book is worn, and due to the design of the stand is now warped. It measures about 16 1/4" long in"closed" position. About 5 3/4" wide and about 8" tall. It is in good condition overall but there are a few chips to wood, mostly on one end(see photos) I think these would touch up very well with a little dark stain but will leave that to new owner. There are a few age cracks at base of upright portion on one end but it is still very solid. There is some surface wear in places from handling/use. Folk Art rawhide laced wooden saddle tree/ book shelf from South of the Border. Down Mexico way. This is the best one I have owned. And the best one I have seen of this type that is not silver embellished. It appears to be in unused condition. And never fitted with leather for a saddle. It is very interestingly constructed by using wooden pegs and rawhide lacing's to hold it together. This suggests that it is an early piece. And dates to the late 19th century; not only because ... moreof the construction method, but also due to the dark aged patina overall. This piece is in 100% original and complete untouched patina that collectors love to see. Note that at the base of the horn where it meets the frame, there is only one wedge fitted in this 90 degree angle. The one side has a wedge with a wooden peg affixing it to the frame. The other side does not have this wedge, nor is there an indication that there was ever a hole for the wooden peg. Thus, it was made this way; perhaps uncompleted, perhaps intended that way. In any case, it is completely original. There are 2 iron nails that along with the rawhide lacing, help hold the top of the saddle back on, that appear to be hand made. Perfect as a book rack, Western, Western Americana, Cowboy, Vaquero, Old West, Horseman, Horse Trapping, Equestrian, saddle, saddle tree display; or as a decorating/ Folk Art conversation piece; or use as a book stand, placing the corner of the books in the middle channel. Victorian Adjustable Book Or Bible Stand Cast Iron And Wood
Up for auction is a beautiful Victorian cast iron and wood bookstand. All the parts are here. Many I've seen have casters or at least the legs taper into what look like a part that would go into a caster. These legs do not have that feature. The right side wooden leaf has a crack running the length of it. This was my aunt's and she always loved to display her gigantic old dictionary. She passed away a few years ago and I'm finally down to parting with it. I can't provide a maker on this or an actual date of production. I've merely compared it to some I've seen here on eBay. The gasket that goes over the top of the legs to hold it together does work though it needs a little coaxing to fit over the gathered parts. I do not believe the wood has been refinished. Age-appropriate wear throughout on both the wood and the metal. I have excellent feedback and have been providing buyers with quality antiques. Here is a great old music stand for your buying consideration. Recently acquired it at an estate sale. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself. The base and pole up to the oak holder for sheet music is made of metal. Most likely cast iron. The three brass hinges on the front of the oak part still works and folds down to hold the sheet music in place. The oak part has the design of a lyre in it. The wood spindles that would have represented the strings are no longer with the piece. Where the oak piece split, there are two metal straps on the back to hold it together. Oak Wood Library Bookshelf, Dictionary, Bible Book Stand/Rest Wall-mounted
DESCRIPTION: LOWER STARTING PRICE! This is a NO RESERVE sale for a really nice oak. Wall-mounted, book shelf. This is the kind of shelf you might see in a library, holding open a book such as a dictionary, phone book or even a bible. When it is mounted on the wall, the shelf tilts downward about 30 degrees. The shelf measures approximately 30 inches across, 12 3/4 inches wide(or, top to bottom of the actual"shelf part" and it sticks out from the wall when mounted by approximately 12 inches. The wooden bracket portion of the shelf(the part that actually touches the wall) measures approximately 7 1/2 inches. In the middle of the top of the shelf, there is a metal bracket which holds the book in place. I believe that this is tarnished brass. I has a nice patina to it, so I didn't touch it. I think that the bracket had a metal rod ... moreof some sort at one time that ran across the top of the book, to hold it open to a certain page. If that's what was there, it is no longer. I think you could easily construct one from a small metal rod or perhaps even a metal coat hanger. You could even run some decorative wire or ribbon. I have placed a smaller phonebook on the shelf in one photo to give an idea of what it would look like(phone book NOT included in sale.although. If you REALLY want it, I suppose you could have it! The bracket portion has two screw holes on each side through which you can mount it to the wall. It also has a small metal"L" bracket in the middle that would allow an additional screw at that location. This shelf is solid oak and is very strong. So if you used heavy duty screws, it could hold a pretty heavy book. I was going to mount the shelf in my library and place a large dictionary on it, but I ended up getting a floor stand instead. I had a hard time finding another example of this type of shelf, so I think this is a good opportunity to get an unusual and rather difficult to find item. Antique Book/Bible Stand manufactured by Ihling Brothers& Everard. Kalamazoo Michagan. This stand has not been restored and is not in perfect shape. There are some surface scratches on the bottom side of the wooden book support. Some missing screws. The picture that shows the bottom of the book support(3rd picture) you can see that the cast iron ear to the left is broken. Though it is broken the mechanism still functions fully. When fully extended 50" The front piece folds up& down to hold sheet music( refer to pics) Three Brass?Metal pieces in center Lyre to look like strings where the wood splits there is a metal bar in the back with 2 bolts holding it together. The base and pole up to the wood music holder is metal. When fully extended the metal is smaller in diameter. Not painted black& rusted(refer to pic) The 3 footed base/ pole shows signs of wear appropriate with age and use, some scuffing, dings, paint loss. For your consideration this evening is a wonderful Dictionary/Bible Book stand. This is a very solid piece in great condition. The height is adjustable. And it comes apart into 2 sections for easier shipping. There is some wear in the black paint along the legs. As shown in the pictures, and the oak book support is a wonderfully warm aged color. I would say that when extended to its highest it is approximately 42" high. The book holder. When fully opened is approximately 19" across and the legs are approximately 22" across at the widest.
