1830 ANTIQUE 19TH BEADED SAMPLER SACRED HEART JESUS ROSES GILT FRAME IHS SILK?
I know I took an odd assortment of photos. But please take a look at them. What I was trying to capture is gold sparkles which I can see in certain light, and angles which just has a Heavenly sparkle. I think this was embroidered either using a gold thread or it is embroidered on gold fabric. The light also reflects off the beads which add to its luminosity and sparkle. This is truly a rare and beautiful piece of art. It is obviously French in origin because fait par is French for made by. It has the Sacred Heart of Jesus surmounted by the cross and surrounded by roses. It is marked 1830. The beads are so teeny tiny. I must say that I am a lover of antique beads. The antique glass is most beautiful. This was a wonderful dedication of love, a religious work for the glory and honor of God. The frame measures 10.75 inches square. The frame itself ... moreis a weighty thing and the gold has such a soft buttery looking patina, more bright gold in some places and darker in others. I believe the back is covered in silk. It is so tightly closed that I am afraid to open it and take out the actual cloth. I wish you could see it when it is not in so much light because that is when one can really see all these little gold specks shining throughout it. Just amazing! Please see my other items. Antique German Handcrafted Porcelain Pipe and Bible 1881 and 1904
This is an Antique German hancrafted Porcelain Smoking Pipe along with a German pocket bible. I'm selling the two together because. They were owned by the same person Henrich Imhoff and the two pieces tell the story of his life. The pipe tells a story of what appears to be his ventures as a young married man possibly in the military from 1881-1891. Some where along the way he took to religion, changed his ways and therefore carried both his bible and his pipe with him as a reminder of where he had been and where he ended. There is a secret comparment in the bible with a some information about his wife. Unfortunately. The pipe is broken at the neck and a rivot missing on the cap. Antique 18th C. Vestment 1700s Priest Cope Cloak Silk Linen Gold Work Embroidery
ANTIQUE ARCH-BISHOP's COPE. Made in France. This cope most likely pre-dates the French Revolution. It allegedly belonged to the Arch-bishop of Reims and gradually made its way to an auction house, where it was purchased by a British Priest and found its way onto EBay. I had photos evaluated by a colleague who works restoring textiles for museums. The heavy Bordeaux damask silk, hand-loomed tapestry style wide rose-design trim, and rare linen lining are all indicative the 18th Century. The early 1700s saw a change in vestment decoration from Holy Personages to Floral& Symbolic Themes. The"Hood" of the Cope depicts the AGNUS DEI. Or Lamb of God, rather than an image of Jesus, as would've been the norm in the 16th C. This reflects Catholicism's reaction to the Protestant accusations of"Idolatry" Hence, as ... moreprotestantism became more popular, Catholic Priests ceased to wear Holy Figures, such as images of the Apostles, Christ, Mary, and even God Himself, on their vestments. The Cope is Large. The Silk Damask is Gorgeous. With an enormous garland design you'd expect to see in a Palace. The 10 inch wide trim boasts silk and gold and silver work upon a foundation of"Cloth of Gold" as they called it in those days. The Agnus Dei on the hood is constructed of silver metallic threads. The Agnus Dei may look familiar. It became very popular and became more stylized. Rays were later added, as well as raised goldwork. This is most likely one of the earlier versions. The metal hook and eye fastenings are heavy and original. Most of this heavy robe was hand sewn together. I can't imagine how strong the tailor's hands had to be to sink a needle through 4 layers of cloth and metal trim. The grape of the vine motif metallic trim borders both sides of the tapestry trim. The vine motif may have been a late 18th C. addition to this cope. As the metallic trim on the bottom of the robe is more indicative of the 1700s. 5 1/4" tall gold gilded Porcelaine De Luxe France F.D. cup(marked on bottom) The appraiser indicated it to be 1800 or early 1900. Fleur d lis gold gild around the cup and the famous USSE which Walt Disney was inspired to fashion his famous castle after seeing it. No cracks. No chips, no breaks, no repairs. A very interesting find! One researcher said that this item was similar to a set of commemorative cups that were made for many interesting locations. I have not found this information yet. A wonderful antique chalice veil with beautiful appliques. It is made of silk with a metallic gold trim. The applique in the middle is the pelican feeding her young with her blood. Symbolic of the self-sacrifice of Jesus for mankind. The whole apllique is padded and covered with gold and silver metallic threads. On each site of the pelican is an applique with floral motive. Also padded and covered with gold metal threads. On the topedge are 2 rings attached. The chalice veil is in a very good condition.
