Onofri of Yonkers New York. Ecclesiastical tailors who were well known tailors of religious garments. This is a superbly crafted garment unlike ready made ones of today. The torso and sleeves are fully lined. There is a row of wooden buttons down the front. There may be 1 or 2 missing ... moreat the bottom, but there is an extra button in the pocket. The buttons are on a placket that conceals a full length zipper so no need to deal with buttoning up those many buttons. There is a snap covered by a button at the top. The collar is padded as are the shoulders. There is an inside breast pocket. Concealed pockets are combined with a slit so that you may put something in the pocket of the vestment or be able to reach your pants pockets. The bottom hem is reinforced on the reverse side with a fringed trim so that the fringe hits the floor and not the bottom of the hem. This also weights the hem down. Some of the buttons on the front appear to have been replaced as although the fronts look the same, the backs are different. Overall nice condition on this vintage cassock. 57"ANTIQUE CHURCH BANNER GOLD THREAD MUSEUM TAPESTRY MADONNA LATIN MASS VESTMENT
Selling this beautiful antique banner. This is truly wonderful. It says Janua Coeli which is Latin for Gate of Heaven. One of Our Blessed Mother's titles. The previous owner said it was from a very old church with stone walls(they lived in Belgium) but the church had been eventually closed, and they were able to take it home. It is composed of some kind of beautiful gold thread tapestry. I believe looking at the images on the background, that this was all hand done somehow. This does not look like a yardage of cloth which someone placed an image of Our Lady on it. I am not learned in textile art, I just appreciate beauty and love Our Lady, which is how I came to own it. I didn't care if it had any damages, and still don't. I think it is just wonderful as it is. I had this hanging in my home but then we decided to bring home baby ... morekittens, which at some point realized that playing with the metal fringe was so much fun. I was afraid they would claw it and damage it, so I took it down and placed it in my hope chest. I have been thinking for over 6 months now what to do about it. The kittens will live at least 10+ years. So I have decided to sell it. It seems a shame to hoard something away in a hope chest when another could be looking at it every day. It will also help my family's financial situation. It brought me much peace and joy having it in our home. It made me meditate upon Our Lady, and if ever you have anxiety, she is just the person you need to stop and talk to. She always brings me much peace. If you need more photos, please let me know. The gold color and detail is very hard to catch with the camera. To see the damages, mostly look at Our Lady's dress and clouds. This is another type of fabric than the brocade and has tears. Has only a Cross with a crown on the front and back of the vestment. Plain as plain could be. Light weight, good for hot weather or a travel mass kit. There is NO stole or other parts with this item. It was never used, but got a little dusty from hanging around. Nice to use for the feast of Christ the King. Hoping this is one mans treasure. One can always hope.
