This pleated white surplice is in very good condition. Only slightly used. It was custom-made and embroidered. It has grey inlaid bands of lace on the sleeves and the bottom. On the front is embroidered a symbolic depiction of Christ as a gryphon carrying a cross and biting a serpent. The gryphon is a medieval symbol of Christ in his two natures(the eagle and the lion united in a single animal representing the divine and human natures of Christ united in a single divine Person) As king of heaven and king of earth. Simple white Surplice
This was made many years ago by this Sister in Massachusetts at the Liturgical Apostolate Center. It is very plain with a round neck. No pleats, rather long. It feels like a cotton-poly fabric and measurers 44 inches long and 24 inches across when extended so it should fit someone with a 44 to 46 inch chest. Front and back photos look much the same showing some wear but not blemishes. Would work well for an acolyte, seminarian, deacon, priest, or bishop.

In the case of wax spilling on the surplice(No there is no wax stains on this one. Or any stains at all) take two Bounty towels, dampen them, put one underneath the area of the stain, and one above the area, take an ironing board and press the iron onto the towels until the wax stain is gone. Cassock and Surplice Vintage Set
SEMINARIANS. TAKE NOTE! I know you didn't take an actual vow of poverty, it's just working out that way. Offered for sale is a vintage set of vestments comparable or superior to new vestments at twice the cost. Have a look at the C. M. Almy website for comparison. The cassock is made of a high quality wool fabric with a Roman style mandarin collar and gauntlet sleeves. There are two side openings with pockets AND access to your trouser pockets. There is also an interior left side breast pocket which I always found a good place to keep an extra pair of reading glasses(it's called presbyopia for a reason! The waist is tailored and there is a"duster" sewn into the hem. So the cassock fits well and hangs nicely. There are 21 buttons that close the front(well, 20, but the missing button does not show when the surplice is ... moreworn) and four decorative buttons on each gauntlet. The surplice is in the Anglican"cathedral" style with full sleeves and a scallop neck. It is made of a synthetic fabric. Probably nylon. Measurements: Cassock- 19" shoulder seam to shoulder seam. 57" collar to hem(back) 24" sleeves, 7" gauntlet, 40" waist. Surplice- 24" sleeves. 40" length. These are well made and cared for vestments that have served me well and will serve you in your service of God.
