We are not certain but believe he was a Bishop. This is a"Chasuble" which is the outermost liturgical vestment worn by clergy for the celebration of the Eucharist in Western-tradition Christian Churches that use full vestments. The chasuble measures about 42.5 inches long from the top of the collar to bottom hem. It has the old style"bell-shape" to it. The material is a creamy colored polyester-blend? This chasuble is embellished with ornate bands of green and rose colored ... morematerial with a large Christian symbol on the backside. This robe is vintage and used. It would benefit from a dry cleaning. We have not done so. There is some wear consistent with age and being worn. The button snap closure needs to be replaced. There are quite a few stains on the front side. Some on the back as well. Appears to be just on the top layer of material not thru to the red underside material. Also, a small section of the seam has let go around the neckline. This chasuble has no makers tag and does appear to have a good age to it. Antique Green Chasuble and Stole for Catholic Priest, Clergy Vestment for Mass
Beautiful Antique Green Chasuble and Stole for Mass This is an antique green chasuble and stole set for the celebration of the Mass. It is in good condition with very little wear. The material is of a kelly green that is much more Roman than the darker forest green color that is often produced today. The back is embroidered with a cross that is composed of flowers with the iconic IHS in the center. The front is a simple pillar composed in the same theme as the back. There are two strings that are used to secure the vestment around the waist of the priest. The matching stole is in very good condition and its adorned with metallic fringe on the bottom. It has a sewn cloth around the neck to absorb any sweat that may damage the material. The only sign of age and wear is found on the front between the embroidered part of the vestment. The cloth ... moreis slightly distressed and is beginning to fray. This can be seen in the photos 6& 7 provided above. Aside from this. The lining is in excellent condition for its age. Stunning vintage priest's green brocade preaching stole with gold symbols and fringe. There is a gold interlaced trefoil and triangle symbol near each end panel and a gold cross at the neck. It has a gold band and 2.5 inches of gold fringe at each end. The lining is a rich bronze colored satin. The maker's tag reads.J. Theodore Cuthbertson Philadelphia, PA" and has a small snap under the tag to attach to the alb or chasuble. The interlaced trefoil and triangle was a common symbol of Christian Trinity during the late Middle Ages in Europe. It is mitered and contoured at the neck for proper fit. The stole is 46 inches long from neck to each end. Almost 5 inches wide at the end and 2.5 inches wide at the neck. The stole is substantial weight and is of very good quality.
