Up for auction is a Holy Rood Guild Roman purple priest chasuble and stole with decorative tapestry around the neck. The Holy ... moreRood Guild in Spencer. MA, is known for the beauty, quality and longevity of their vestments. A comparable chasuble and stole set today would sell for close to $500 and most of their designs are over $1000. This particular chasuble and stole are older and are gently used, although it is clean and without stains or other markings. There is a zipper at the neck(see photo) which keeps the chasuble well fitted. Pease note that the stitching holding the tapestry in place is coming undone on the right shoulder and in a few other places(see photos) Thankfully, it has not caused damage to the vestment and could easily be re-sewn. In fact, I believe that the owner could decide to remove the tapestry entirely without causing damage to the vestment, if desired. Some of the hem on the back of the vestment is slightly undone, but again, could easily be fixed. The chasuble is unlined, while the stole is lined. Measurements are approximate: about 80" wide when spread out, about 48" from the neck to the bottom in the front and about 52" from the neck to the bottom in the back. The overall length of the stole, when laid flat out, including tassels, is about 57"

The interlaced trefoil and triangle was a common symbol of Christian Trinity during the late Middle Ages in Europe. It is mitered and contoured at the neck for proper fit. The stole is 46 inches long from neck to each end. Almost 5 inches wide at the end and 2.5 inches wide at the neck. The stole is substantial weight and is of very good quality. Antique 18th C. Vestment 1700s Priest Cope Cloak Silk Linen Gold Work Embroidery
ANTIQUE ARCH-BISHOP's COPE. Made in France. This cope most likely pre-dates the French Revolution. It allegedly belonged to the Arch-bishop of Reims and gradually made its way to an auction house, where it was purchased by a British Priest and found its way onto EBay. I had photos evaluated by a colleague who works restoring textiles for museums. The heavy Bordeaux damask silk, hand-loomed tapestry style wide rose-design trim, and rare linen lining are all indicative the 18th Century. The early 1700s saw a change in vestment decoration from Holy Personages to Floral& Symbolic Themes. The"Hood" of the Cope depicts the AGNUS DEI. Or Lamb of God, rather than an image of Jesus, as would've been the norm in the 16th C. This reflects Catholicism's reaction to the Protestant accusations of"Idolatry" Hence, as ... moreprotestantism became more popular, Catholic Priests ceased to wear Holy Figures, such as images of the Apostles, Christ, Mary, and even God Himself, on their vestments. The Cope is Large. The Silk Damask is Gorgeous. With an enormous garland design you'd expect to see in a Palace. The 10 inch wide trim boasts silk and gold and silver work upon a foundation of"Cloth of Gold" as they called it in those days. The Agnus Dei on the hood is constructed of silver metallic threads. The Agnus Dei may look familiar. It became very popular and became more stylized. Rays were later added, as well as raised goldwork. This is most likely one of the earlier versions. The metal hook and eye fastenings are heavy and original. Most of this heavy robe was hand sewn together. I can't imagine how strong the tailor's hands had to be to sink a needle through 4 layers of cloth and metal trim. The grape of the vine motif metallic trim borders both sides of the tapestry trim. The vine motif may have been a late 18th C. addition to this cope. As the metallic trim on the bottom of the robe is more indicative of the 1700s. Vintage ITALIAN Beehive lace alb for a Monsignor or Bishop. As you can see it has the red silk cuffs under the lace! Lace is very sturdy and will not tear or rip! This White Liturgical Alb is sized for Male or Female. Male(chest) 42-45 Female(chest) 45-46. 5 foot 9 to 5 foot 10. Label says CM Almy CT. Sleeve is 23 inches long with a 3 and 1/2 inch set in cuff. The sleeve is 9 and 3/4 inches wide. The amice style collar is closed with a single snap inside and a double snap closure on the left shoulder. A tie inside the alb insures proper draping on the body. The length from the collar seam in the back to the bottom of the hem is 58 inches. White Priest Chasuble/ Stole/Chalice Veil/Burse Vestment (015)
This Vintage White Chasuble and Stole have some wear showing but are still in usable shape. The Battenburg Rose design in the white material looks very nice with a single band of burgundy velvet which is outlined with gold trim down the front(a very small spot near the band looks as though the burgundy bled some color) There is a slight reddish stain near the bottom left of the chasuble as well. Neither of these are very noticeable. There is a burgundy velvet Y band outlined with gold trim on the back of the chasuble. The applique on the back Y band has a 10 inch heighth and 8 inch width. And gold threads embroidered the I H S on burgundy velvet in the center of the applique, the gold crown on the applique is studded with mullti colored beads and hand embroidered background. The chasuble is 45 inches long in the back and 41 inches in the ... morefront and fully lined in gold satin material(there is some minor discoloration on the lining, not sure what it's from) A 12 inch neck opening is outlined with a double burgundy velvet and gold trim. The chasuble is 57 inches wide. The matching fully lined stole is 98 inches long plus a three inch white fringe at each end. There are four velvet bands on each side of the stole outlined with gold trim, the lower bands are 3 and 3/4 inch wide the one at the top of each side is 3 and 1/2 inches. The Chalice Veil is 23 and 1/2 inches by 24 inches, it has a few water/wine? stains which are not particularly noticeable. The veil is fully lined in the same gold material as the stole and chasuble and outlined with gold and white cording with detailed knots at the corners. The veil has a 4 inch padded gold cross applique with a red glass/plastic bead in the center. The Burse is a 9 inch square with the same 4 inch gold padded cross applique and the red bead, and the gold and white cording around the edges. These items were hand crafted with great care. The age of these items is unknown but the parish was over 100 years old when it closed in 2011, most probably from the late1960's or

Purple Violet Chasuble and Stole Priest Vestment
Up for auction is a stunning violet/purple chasuble and matching stole. I'm not quite sure of the age of this vestment. It is clean and in very good condition. With the exception of some fraying on the shoulders(see pictures) where the lining shows through. This could easily be repaired by a seamstress. The vestment is very light-weight. Measurements are approximate. It measures approximately 38.5 inches from the neck to the bottom in the front, and about 40 or so inches from the neck to the bottom in the back. The chasuble is in the traditional gothic style, so it is meant to be a bit smaller than the typical monastic chasubles that are common today. Overall, while the vestment needs a bit of TLC, it is a very good find.

Estate Anglican Priest Bell-shaped Cream Chasuble Vestment

We are not certain but believe he was a Bishop. This is a"Chasuble" which is the outermost liturgical vestment worn by clergy for the celebration of the Eucharist in Western-tradition Christian Churches that use full vestments. The chasuble measures about 38.5 inches long from the top of the collar to bottom hem. It has the old style"bell-shape" to it. The material is a heavy cream colored brocade with a gorgeous pattern in the material. The chasuble is trimmed out with a somewhat ... moreof a light olive green colored material band decorated with embroidery work in a deep reddish color. This robe is vintage and used. It would benefit greatly from a dry cleaning. We have not done so. There is some wear consistent with age and being worn frequently. This wear might be found in frayed material, small spots/staining, frayed trim, etc. There are a few spots where the stitching has come loose on the embroidered band that is applied on the chasuble.
