Vintage Spanish Terra Cotta Toledo Tile 5.75"
A downsizing family asked me to sell a few items. Offered here is a vintage tile that was purchased in Toledo Spain and hand carried back to the United States. The tile is done on terra cotta with a glazed design on the front. It measures 5.75 inches square. It has never been used. I have other tiles from Toledo for sale in other auctions and I combine shipping.

It was our understanding that these items were from a store in Niagara Falls that closed down in the 70's. Which makes sense, because many of the items were wrapped in newspapers from the area and time mentioned. However, we also found many, many items that were wrapped in the La Presse(Montreal, Quebec, Canada) from the 60's. Additional items were wrapped in a Dutch newspaper from the 60's also. So it is a bit of a conundrum as to when and/or where these actually originate from. This Marvelous Earthenware/ Ceramic Tea Tile measures about 5 7/8 across the face Numerous marks on the back. None of which we have been able to ... moreidentify, the most. Please note: No nicks. Chips, cracks or crazing. The back needs a bit of a cleanup, but are are completely unsure what to use so as not to cause any damage, so we shall leave that up to you to decide. Rare Lot 18th C Antique 5" Dutch Manganese Delft Ceramic Nautical-Ship Wall Tile
This is a rather rare lot of 5 unique and old manganses Delft tiles featuring a nautical(ships) scene on each. Three tiles are framed and two are in very good condition. The remaining three have hairline cracks and crazing. Even so. It is hard to find these old tiles without missing pieces. Each measures 5 1/8” square and are about 1/4" thick. As you can see, all have been previously used and were salvaged. We purchased this lot approx 30 years ago at a antique shop in Europe and they have been in our smoke free home ever since. Solon and Schemmel Tile Co. San Jose California S& S 1920-1936 Albert Solon(1887-1949) immigrated from England to the U.S. in 1912. He studied at(later San Jose State University) He was employed as the pottery director at a tuberculosis sanitorium in Fairfax. Before moving to San Jose and teaching ceramics at the San Jose Normal School. 1] In 1920. He joined with Schemmel to found S&S tiles[ 1] 2] Solon designed the tiles and Schemmel headed the business. Both men lived in Willow Glen during the 1930s and 40s. Their work for Willow Glen sites included Willow Glen Theater(demolished) and the façades of homes on Telfer Avenue. Kotenberg Avenue and Willow Glen Way. 1] Schemmel retired in 1936 and Solon joined up with Paul Larkin. They changed the company name to Solon& Larkin and worked together until Solon retired in 1947. ... more1] 2] Schemmel died in 1950. Albert Solon came from a family with a long history in ceramics. His eldest brother Leon Solon(1872-1957) worked as artistic director and designer at the in New York from 1912 to 1925. Where Paul Solon(1883- also worked. Camille A. Offered is a nice antique(17th- 18th century) Delft tile. The tiler has done a little village on a canal and added little curlycues in the corners. Measures 5" square and about 3/8" thick. Weighs about 10 ounces. Condition is nice. There are some kiln flaws and some crazing. Some little edge flea biting- no big chips, no discoloration except for a tiny spot on left corner. 30 Turn of the century 6"x1.5" Old Bridge Tile
30 6"x1.5" ceramic tiles. Brown and gold pattern with some nice crazing. Some very minor imperfections on some of the tiles, very good condition considering their agencies. 2 tiles have broken off pieces; length side curvature divet, and a corner piece on the other as shown in the pictures. Tiles were manufactured by the Old Bridge tile company, as indicated by engraving on back of tile. Retail for $7-$10 each.
