You are bidding on a single 5 X 6 1/4 Hand Painted tile of an early rustic scene with a lantern. Signed by Gene Franks. The tile is set inside of an oak frame 7 1/2 X 6 1/2. This tile is in very nice condition and comes from a smoke and pet free home. You are bidding on a hand painted table top from the 1920's. I know because it was my Grandma's and she was born in 1885! 12 tiles! Bought in the 20's the table top is so sweet it would look great in a vintage kitchen. Framed on a wall or on a table of your own. Each tile is 6"x6" and.25 thick so it would be easy to mount anywhere 18" x 24" The table has very few issues and typical wear and tear for age but here they are: Only one tile shown has a ding in it. shown) it also has a chip which was glued but you can't see it. Up for auction is this set of six(6) 6" square ceramic tiles/ trivets. Each tile is hand painted with a character from Chaucer's'Canterbury Tales' The characters are; The Poor Parson. The Reeve, The Miller, The Monk and The Cook x 2. I have informed that these were painted by a company called Packard& Ord in the early 1950's. It would appear that they may have been used as trivets? as each has a thin cork backing. Some of the backings are in poor condition. Seen on the"ground" beneath his feet, and a bit of wear in his green sleeve. No corner chips, but there are 4 single chips on the back each tile ~ one on each of the 4 sides in the middle. It looks as if this were displayed in a frame at one time, and these were cause by the nails holding it to the frame being too tight and grinding into the tile. There is also a rust colored stain around the top chip, more than likely caused by rust on the frame hanger. These flaws are not visible from the front when on display. Vintage Danish Ceramic Coasters Tiles ~ Hand Painted~Set of 6. Orig Box, Denmark Description: This is a sweet set of six hand-painted ceramic tiles that were made in Denmark. They are 3 inches square. Have cork on the bottom and appear to be intended to use as coasters. Each is painted with a different flower. They are stamped on the bottom, Handpainted Denmark” There is no date present. But the box does seem to be somewhat old. The box is labeled"Aakjaer Serien" which I believe is the name of the floral series. There are other words in Danish on the box(see closeup photo) A perfect accessory for your Danish Modern collection! Condition: The tiles are in near-perfect condition with almost no flaws that I could find. One of the tiles has a bit of paper glued pretty solidly to the bottom of the cork. The edges of the tiles are just ... morea bit rough. The box has a bit of wear. A few soil marks, and tape scarring on it and someone has written on the box. Please see photos. All fragile items like this are double-boxed carefully in well-padded cardboard boxes to ensure their safe arrival. Okay. Six (6) Antique Hand Painted Dutch Delft Ware Tiles Ships Boats Framed
Six(6) Antique Hand Painted Dutch Delft Ware Tiles Ships and Boats Framed 6 Delft Ware Tiles depicting ships and boats in full sail on the open sea. Distant ships in the background on 4 of the tiles. These tiles are hand painted-for example. Two of the tiles(3rd one down on the left and 2nd one down on the right) depict the same boat and scene, but there are subtle differences in the rigging spacing, shape of the large fender, waves, etc. Great detail, from the ship's rigging to the rolling waves and billowing sails. Each tile measures about 5-1/4" square. Corner pattern meets to form a new pattern where the tiles come together. Different shades of blue with colored flags. Sticker on back says"Closson Cincinnati Established 1866" and there are some hand written pencil letters and numbers as well. Closson is a famous Cincinnati ... moreantique, furniture and art store in Cincinnati. There is a masonite board on the back of the frame with backing paper. I'm not sure if the tiles are actually mounted to the masonite. The frame is rough sawn and painted black with mitered corners. Probably hand made. Overall, the frame measures about 17" by 11-1/2" Condition: The tiles are in generally very good condition given their age. No breaks or cracks. There is minor discoloration. Marks, and chipping on the edges, and extensive crazing which adds character and patina to the piece. The frame is solid, but as said above, probably hand made, rough sawn, and painted black most likely AFTER the tiles were framed, as there is black paint on the paper backing on the back. The paper backing is torn, water stained, and needs replaced or repaired. I would probably re-frame it if I kept it. See high resolution photos for more! Wonderful example of Delft ware tile!
