1920's or 30's 4 PIECE TILE OF A PARROT WITH SURROUND, CALIFORNIA ART TILE
I love this tile. When my grandmother's table broke beyond repair. I salvaged the tile from it. I planned on having another table made or re-using it as a backsplash. That was 20 years ago.The tile is from the late 1920's to 1930's. I believe they, or perhaps just the decorative 6 x 6 tiles, are Catalina( California Art Tile. The parrot decorative tiles are 6 x 6. The border tile is 2 x 6, the corners are 2 x 2. The background on the parrot tiles are a deep blue/black, the border tiles are a true black. I have not cleaned these tiles up. Some of the terra cotta grout came off when I was lifting the tile out of the table, it is still on parts of the tile and the adhesive remains are on the back.please see pictures. Antique Hand-painted Ceramic Art Tile Set of 4 Sailing Ships
Offered here today is a set of 4 antique tiles each with a large. Triple-masted sailing ship. They each measure almost 4" X 4" X 1/4" thick. Together they weigh over 1# 3 ounces UNpacked. Each tile shows a different ship and it appears that there are 2 sets of 2 more closely matching tiles.see the pictures. These are older tiles that I acquired in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, more than 40 years ago. They are still in as-found condition with one tile(lower right in the picture of all 4 together) having a repaired(actually looks to have scotch tape across it) lower corner(as shown front and back in the pictures) The tiles have remains of what looks to be paint that could be removed, if desired. The edges have some roughness to them, but no major nicks, cracks or chips. The clay is a light tan, sandy type and the backs are clean. ... moreAll said, I believe them to be Portugese, or perhaps even Spanish, but not Dutch Delft. This is a really beautiful Art Nouveau tile. This has been in my collection for years. But I've decided to start letting things go. Condition: this tile is close to 100 years old; slight discoloration along edges(1/8" max) where tile used to be in a frame or furniture; there is age crazing on the tile and a tiny, tiny nibble on two corners; paint on one edge and tape residue/ writing/ and glaze on the back(please carefully review the photos for condition of the tile) The colors and pattern are really elegant. Up for auction is a great little 4 1/8" square hand painted porcelain tile featuring an armadillo. Very nicely painted. Quite folky. Nice greens, browns and golds painted in an illustrative black outline style. This is quite dirty and dusty but should clean up nicely. The sides are unfinished but I do not see glue or grout. ANTIQUE 1890’S GIBSON GIRL PORTRAIT ART TILE 4" FIGURAL ROUND CERAMIC/POTTERY
This is an 1890’s 4 inch round GIBSON GIRL Portrait Art tile. The GIBSON GIRL is very detailed. Dressed in a high-necked bodice, with a pompadour hair style and wearing an Ostrich Feather Plumed hat that are all of the Late Victorian/Early Edwardian style. The glaze is a rich honey color and has a few brown spots that are under the glaze(pictured) This piece does have some crazing, that is mostly un-noticeable(I used a loop to examine this piece) There is an edge chip on the underneath bottom that caused a small bite on the side where the glaze is chipped(pictured) There is 2 places on the raised figural design where there are very light abrasions(pictured) that can be felt when rubbed with your hand, but not seen with the naked eye. When glazed, there are 4 areas the glaze did not completely cover the edge(pictured) and I believe this is ... morefrom when it was made due that these areas are smooth and have no roughness as a chip would. This GIBSON GIRL Portrait art tile measures 4” across, 3/4” high around the outside and 1” high in places of the figural area. This would be a beautiful addition to any décor or collection.
