Nice luster, looks different in every kind of light. Glaze is nicely variegated- study photos to get the feel and look of this relatively heavy piece(for its size) Does not appear to be missing a lid- the way the opening was made, I do not believe this ever had a lid, at least not a ceramic one that would have been incorporated into the clay design when the piece was hand thrown. Looks like this crock could originate from the Catawba Valley Pottery, but just my opinion. Glaze& form reminds me a little bit of Pewabic Pottery pieces, but not iridescent. Not much wear given its age- glaze has rubbed off in a few small spots around the rim(see photo) but no serious chips or cracks. Bottom is unmarked. All sales are final- no returns. Vintage Brown Glass Large Jug Bottle 13.5" Height GREAT Handle 3 lbs. 1 Gallon One large brown glass jug in almost excellent condition. It's beautiful and sturdy. No cracks, beautiful handle and neck, heavy and sturdy. There is one tiny mark on the top. Which is not sharp so it may be a chip or it may have been there since it's creation. It has some light scuff marks on the bottom, but that is to be expected. There is some shadowing on the inside which may be cleaned; little specks of something here and there but nothing major. It holds a bit more than one gallon and has many uses. Height is 13.5" Weight is 3.3 pounds, base is 5 3/4" We are good packagers! Thank you. This Jug has on the bottom 1942. It does have stress rings on the bottom but not broken. The top is meant for a cork. Also on the bottom are the numbers 5007 or S007. Chemicals were in this jar and it has residue inside which I am not cleaning out- I don't want to destroy the paper label and the way it is adds tons of character. Bottom of Jar is stamped"141" 1929" It's great to know exactly where this came from. What it contained& how it was used- very rare for a antique 5 Gallon Glass Jug. The history is right on the side. Hand blown 5 gallon Glass Jug with original wooden crate. Stunning! Beautiful decor item. This piece has been in my family since at least the late 1800's. Was my great great grandfathers and according to the family story they used it for wine. Still has it's original wooden crate that has a very rare hand made spring system that keeps the jug extra snug. Has original cork that I will not attempt to pull out. This is hand blown& has some air bubbles. The jug has no markings at all. I have not been able to locate another one like this on the Internet. Very very rare piece! I am not an expert so look closely at the pictures and if you have any questions please ask. Local pick up in Glenside. Pa is free and shipping is a flat rate of $35.
