Antique Victorian Hand Blown CRANBERRY Ruby Glass Jug Pitcher Pontil c1875 OLD
You are viewing a wonderful antique deep cranberry glass lemonade or water pitcher. From the style and the way it was made. I would estimate it was made some time in the second half of the 19th century in the reign of Queen Victoria. I believe it is an English jug, although it may also be American in origin. It is entirely hand-made, blown glass. The style is almost Aesthetic Movement and the shape reminds me of a Dr. Christopher Dresser design. This lovely jug stands approximately 19 centimeters tall. The pontil mark on the underside has been ground and polished leaving a nice recessed area. The jug is in good condition with no cracks or chips. Minor scratching especially on the underside rim Minor calcium deposits on the interior of the jug. Shipping will $24 internationally from Paris France. Hand blown 5 gallon Glass Jug with original wooden crate. Stunning! Beautiful decor item. This piece has been in my family since at least the late 1800's. Was my great great grandfathers and according to the family story they used it for wine. Still has it's original wooden crate that has a very rare hand made spring system that keeps the jug extra snug. Has original cork that I will not attempt to pull out. This is hand blown& has some air bubbles. The jug has no markings at all. I have not been able to locate another one like this on the Internet. Very very rare piece! I am not an expert so look closely at the pictures and if you have any questions please ask. Local pick up in Glenside. Pa is free and shipping is a flat rate of $35. Italian winemakers fill these with wine. Cork the tops and tie them to the tops of their cars. We saw this in the Tuscan countryside in the 1980's. This is a beautiful old piece we hate to part with but we are downsizing big time.The 4th to last picture shows a shield-shaped imperfection I thought was glue residue from a sticker but it is an imperfection on the INSIDE of the jug; the outside is smooth. This could be used as an umbrella stand or to hold dried flowers such as elephant grass. Please be sure to see the other art glass we have listed. FEATURES: Completely hand-blown with molded curved handle. It has a wide mouth opening of 3-1/2" When the piece was blown. The neck and shoulders are made of thicker glass with a deeper brown color. As the walls were blown, the glass was drawn much thinner and has a yellowish hue. It thickens up on the bottom and is a dark brown almost opaque color. There is a pontile mark on the bottom and a turned up molded"tail" on the handle. There are even a few bonus bubbles in the glass in various ... moreplaces. ADD. An interesting antique Victorian hand blown amber glass jug. With multiple design details and a large pontil evident on base. Not marked, probably made in a cottage type English glass refinery. Body is formed with a heavy translucent amber glass with trapped air bubbles and a ribbed textured round base which becomes more pronounced on the thin straight neck. The handle is hand applied and curled. The six leaf shaped feet are also hand applied and have been pressed at the tip with a criss-cross motif. Measures 8.5 inches high. Condition is excellent. There is some slight mineral residue which remains after a gentle cleaning. No damage, breaks or losses. Interesting piece of antique glass which was decorated in the style of the mid to late 19th century Victorian era.
