While researching this item I found similar items listed as lemonade ... morepitchers. Wine cooler pitchers, claret jugs, and water pitchers. There was one very similar one that was made in West Germany. This particular pitcher does not have a makers mark that I could find though. It appears to be vintage. This is a very heavy. Solid pitcher. It has sunbursts cut into the bottom half of the pitcher with clusters of grapes and leaves etched and cut above. It has a silverplate handle, lid and spout. The insert still has its cork insert in the cap to prevent leaks. The spout has a strainer to keep and fruit particles in the pitcher, not the glass. The item measures approximately 11.5 inches high and 8 inches across(spout to handle) It weighs 4 pounds. 10 ounces. The silver is tarnished in some spots. The glass is in very good condition with no clouding. It still sparkles beautifully. I accept payment through PayPal only. Please make payment within three days of the end of the auction. It has an applied handle and a polished pontil to the base. We believe it is from the 1900- 1920s era. It weighs just under 1kg. A great water or fruit cocktail jug- it would look wonderful filled with open rose blooms. Measurements- Approx 190mm high and 190mm from pourer to handle. Wonderful Victorian Etched and Cut Glass Water Jug
This beautiful water jug was brought to Canada from Shropshire in England by my great-great-grandmother in 1908. Over the years it has been treated gently and has mainly been stored in various generation's china cabinets. Aside from a few wear marks on its base. It is in excellent condition. The jug stands 8 inches high and is 6 inches across at the base and 4 inches across at the top. Its handle is just over 5.5 inches long. The etchings and cuttings on this glass are beautifully done and show elegance in their grace and restraint. The flowers appear to be cosmos. And they are artfully arranged among various graceful tendrils. The top edge is delicately scalloped all the way around, and there is a 16-point star on the base. I have cared for this jug for a very long time. It is truly a one-of-a-kind piece. But I have several pieces of ... morefamily glass and crystal and am happy to find a new home for this one.
