Available here is a set of encaustic fireplace tiles made by Trent Company. There are 11 tiles with a floral/vine/three leaf clover pattern. Included in the tiles are 2 corner tiles. One top center tile and one end"L" tiles. shown in center) Beautiful colors of aqua and brown. Color change can be arranged differently if desired. Colors are much more pretty than photos depict. All of the tiles exhibit crazing consistent with age. They have very little to no concrete grout on the back. They are all marked“TRENT” on the back. When placed together correctly. Antique Trent Tile Co.Trenton NJ 18" green majolica mantel Reclining Woman On offer is this amazing 18" wide. 6" tall ceramic tile from a mantel, An antique early 1900's piece from the Trent Tile Company of Trenton. New Jersey. Prolific tile producers in the early 1900's. This hard to find centerpiece tile is glazed in a deep earthy green. A detailed reclining woman with greenery to her back and she is holding a tambourine. For the period. This tile was evocative and slightly risque. Beautifully glazed in a way that gives depth to the subject. Overall glaze crazing for the heat of the fire below. She has a couple of edge chips and some glaze rubbing to her raised decoration. Stunning Antique Victorian Majolica High Relief Tile - Providential Tile Works
Stunning antique Victorian English Majolica tile moulded in high relief with a very beautiful glaze color in rich browns of intertwining vines and leaves weaving around a stylised flower to the center. The high relief moulding is very crisp and sharp with excellent detail. Circa 1895. The tile is in very good condition. A few small chips along edges/corners. As well as a few small surface chips. Very light crazing. Superb glaze brilliance with wonderful depth of color. Antique Decorative Arts Providential Tile Works Majolica Trenton NJ Floral Blue
Up for auction is a vintage antique Provincial Tile(PT) Works wedgewood blue Majolica architectural tile recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia PA area. It is found in good used condition with the only condition of heavy crazing under the glaze. Very typical of these tiles of this age and one small chip to one corner, number 4. This measures 3" sq by 1/2" thick. There are very minor knicks to the back as well as a build up of the old glue on the back and plasters on the side. A great repurposed trivet or a great wall hanging. The design# is on the back, we cannot make it out but believe is to be F276, but not positive, difficult to make out and too hard to photograph. This 6" square majolica art tile is probably English in origin. It is not signed. This lovely tile bears an Art Nouveau design of organic florals and was probably manufactured circa 1900. The background color of this tile is a soft ivory and the stylized poppies are a deep rose and the foliage is a soft medium green. This tile is in very good condition for its age. There is crackling to the glaze. There is also some chipping to the back of the tile. On the bottom edges, but this chipping does not carry over onto the front and certainly does not detract from the beauty of this tile. This is fantastic example of antique Majolica tile work. The tile set can be framed or used in your kitchen. Bath or home decor! It is rare to find single tiles of this type and quality and a matched pair is an exceptional find! Each tile depicts a"cameo" of a cherub with an ornate scrolled design in press molded high relief. The cherubs have wonderful detailed faces& hair. The tiles have a marvelous translucent tobacco brown glaze. The tiles are marked on the back"SHERWINS. PAT. LOCKBACK, ENGLAND. Sherwin and Cotton was established in 1877 in Hanley. Stafforshire, England and was a prolific manufacturer of all forms of tiles ... morefor walls and floors. Antique Della Robbia Earthenware Majolica Cherub Pottery. Extremely Rare!!
Antique Italian Della Robbia Ceramic Earthenware Majolica Pottery circa 1772. The year. ITALY" and logo markings are under glazed. There are thin hairlines from enamel coating on erased ceramic white boy figures. Also, bottom and along side of the top of the pottery shows numerous thin hairlines which I presume it is normal considering its age. Please see pictures. There are altogether six(6) different white figurines, or cherubs surrounded by fruits on blue background. I could not verify the logo on the pottery. 1772 could indicate the year it was made thus, making this pottery more than 240 years old. Or, It could be an early to mid 1900's SACA's(the Society Anonima Ceramiche Artische) in Sesto Florentino/Florence of Italy. HEAVY ANTIQUE MIDDLE EAST QAJAR MOLDED POTTERY TILE FALCON MAJOLICA HORSE MAN
Purchased by a collector in 1973. There is a hand written note on the rear of the tile which documents his acquisition in"Isphahan" Iran which is Isfahan, Iran and located south of Tehran. This spelling was a more common spelling for English speaking visitors during the 20th century. This is one of three heavy hand made and hand painted great Middle Eastern/ Islamic tiles that I am listing in addition to a few other cool items from the same area of the world and estates from here in the Charleston area. The tile is probably late 19th century to early 20th century and is absolutely gorgeous! The colors are vibrant and the hand painted tile is detailed and expressive. USA Date: c 1883 Notable features: This dark blue high relief tile was made by the Zanesville Majolica Company of Ohio. They were in business only 2 years- 1882-1884. And very few pieces ever circulate. This tile features a woman sitting at a desk in a beautifully appointed room- judging by the bullseye glass window tucked in an arch. This area seems to be a gothic designed alcove. Her chair is elaborately carved, and the tiled floor has a raised tiled platform. She tends to her needle work. A young girl stands near her, cradling her pet rabbit, ... moredressed up, with perhaps her mother's drawstring purse as accessory. A toddler boy sits at her feet pulling his wheeled wooden toy horse, with stick serving as whip. This has darker blue pooled glaze in the upper area. Superb details. This tile is clean all around and unused. It is perfect for framing or to add to a collection of rare historical American ceramics. SIze: 9.25" x 12.75" Condition: A thin 1/4" chip on lower front right. Another chip/flake.38" widest by.75" long. but thin- to the top left back(as seen from the front) A couple of very thin nicks to the back edge. No other cracks. Chips, hairlines, breaks or repairs. Vintage Antique 6 Tiles Home-made Trivet Art Nouveau Majolica Style 2 Patterns
Up for auction is an antique tile grouping glued to plywood recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia PA area. There are 2 designs. 2 of one with 4 of the other. This ends up being 12" sq. We cannot see the makers mark but very reminiscent of Majolica. We believe these to be made in Trenton NJ but could possibly be English as well. There is mortar spots in several areas and a loss to one of the end tiles. The crazing is commensurate with old majolica's we find similar. The home made grouping is very pleasing in the gold tones, with one of the center floral tiles a little more green than the other, but none the less very pleasing, very functional gold accent. New Jersey. Prolific tile producers in the early 1900's. This hard to find pair of tiles are glazed in a deep earthy green. Two men. Each a musician. Piccolo and flute players Beautifully glazed in a way that gives depth to the subject. Overall glaze crazing for the heat of the fire below. They have a couple of edge chips and some glaze rubbing to the raised decoration. One has a dark stained chip near the top.There has been some repainting to the fingers etc. Perhaps could have been done better. A truly beautiful large pair of tiles from a great manufacture. Pair Antique Majolica Art Tiles, Aesthetic Movement, Late 19thc
Pair of Majolica Art Tiles from the Late 19th Century These tiles are excellent examples of late 19th century earthenware art tiles. The classic Aesthetic Movement floral and geometric design is influenced by Japanese motifs. The center of each tile is a stylized Chrysanthemum surrounded by a segmented border with a fan or wave pattern. The pattern is deeply embossed and glazed in a high gloss glaze in rich tones of greens and brown. Each tile is 6" x 6" x 7/16" There are no markings on the back to indicate who manufactured them. I purchased them many years ago in Wales. The tiles are in overall very good condition. The color and glaze is still rich and bright. There is a nice amount of crackling in the surface of the glaze. There is overall variations in the color and transparency of the glaze as it pools within the deep relief ... moreof the pattern. There is a very slight variation in colors of the two tiles. There are several small chips in the tiles most notably on the corner of one tile and on the edge of the other. The chips have been painted in. There is a very small amount of cement residue on the sides and backs of the tile. Please look carefully at the pictures and e-mail me with any questions. The glaze is highly reflective so in some photos it is hard to distinguish some of the details. Two exquisite and dramatic collectable majolica tiles from the last half of the 19th century. Antique Majolica Tile Woman At Dawn (3)
Antique majolica tiles. Three tiles together to make a scene of a woman. Has the sun coming up on the right upper corner. In the middle tile"dawn" is written in the tile. I don't think"dawn" is the name of the artist but it is the name of the tiles as the woman is looking at the sun at dawn. I don't know- just my interpretation. There is some damage to each tile and some crazing throughout. Still a very interesting and unusual set of old tiles. Some of the pictures are showing like a burgundy color but color is more like the first picture- a medium brown and beige. Each tile is 6" x 6" I believe the tiles were added to the wood backing at a later time and may have been on a mantel at one time. May send Fedex or USPS.
