I found this wonderful chest at an old house here in Charlotte last fall. My plan was to use it in the house but I never did I am passing it along to someone who can put it to good use. I am not sure of the wood but love all the detail.I have taken lots of photos so you can see detail. Please note. It needs a good polish/cleaning. FOR PICKUP ONLY This is a Lane Cedar Lined Hope Chest from about the early 1970's. Measurements are approximately 17" deep x 42" long x 24" high with a dark Early American finish. My apologies for the glare in the photos. Apart from needing a good cleaning on the outside. It is intact with mostly minor wear and tear on the outside except for the top where a young child attempted to scratch a few words into the wood. I doubt it could be sanded off but the area could be filled with putty if the item was to be repainted or simply covered with a cushion if the original finish is desired. Here is a great example of the beauty and quality that Drexel builds into their furniture. The fluted. Angled corners and graceful kneed bracket feet really enhance the classic elegance of this piece. This 5 drawer chest is in overall very good condition. All of the drawers have tight dovetails and operate smoothly. There are a couple of issues on the top including a split that is a few inches long and some small dark spots that are clustered together. While noticeable, these spots are greatly exagerated by the camera. They could be repaired without too much difficulty. I can't find anything to compare it to, so I believe it might be rare. There is no key and the mechanism seems to be in great shape. There are some nicks& scratches, this is old and not perfect, but has a lot of character especially with the 38 Star Flag. This would be great for restoring or using it as a storage box! LANE. Unique wood chest designed to look like four stacked suitcases. Each suitcase has a single wood drawer with a leather handle. The strapping and corner protectors are also leather. The chest is made of wood covered with what I would best describe as a heavy textured linen(feels like material/canvas and is not plastic or vinyl) This is a gorgeous piece designed to look like a stack of antiqued suitcases. I love this chest of drawers… but my husband does not. I had planned to use it in the guest bedroom that is decorated in a West Indies style and then decided I like it too much to have it hidden away in room that is hardly used. So then I decided to put it in the entrance foyer because it’s so unique and could hold it’s own and everyone would get to see it. But from the moment I bought it home my husband didn’t like it. I found this item while sorting through an estate on Sanibel and fell in love with it. It has Wonderful eye appeal and has a very captivating essence about it. The Chest is large and VERY HEAVY 20-25+ lbs and has a Mahogany core. I'm not to sure of what type of material the outside is composed of. Though I am fairly certain it is a different material. The chest eloquently lofts an inch off the ground suspended on Bronze Water-Buffalo Horns. One of the legs appears to have been jarred, marked by position of one of the screws; however, it doesn't dilute the integrity of the structure or design. The Water-Buffalo Horns are 7"in tall and 2"in wide at the bottom. The top has a majestic antelope in poise- Icing on the cake. "Harmony House" Cedar Chest with Lock. Sears Roebuck. Vintage 1950s 1960s.
Travel back in time with this vintage"Harmony House" cedar chest. Harmony House" was a Sears Roebuck line of home furnishings from about 1940 to 1968. There were eighteen different color schemes with a color wheel to allow color matching. Some of the colors were pretty groovy. Like aquamarine and chartreuse. Measuring about 40" by 17-1/2" by 21-1/4" tall, this is a big cedar chest. The inside is all cedar, the outside has a light oak or pine veneer finish. The inside is in great condition. The fold out tray is lined with green felt and works well. It still has the cool"Harmony House" paper insert in the inside top. On the outside, there are a small chips off the edges of the veneer on the bottom that aren't particularly noticeable. The four legs do unscrew. It is a lovely vintage piece that I haven't ... moreable to precisely date. It is mid-20th century, 1950s or 1960s. It doesn't have the key for the lock. If you want a key, I can get one made for $20 at the local locksmith. Just let me know. The outside is made to look as if it is a two drawer dresser, but it is a locking chest.
