In my ... moreopinion. I am selling the matching gentleman's dresser, or highboy, separately. Both pieces have been refinished, but missing veneer work was not done, so, as you can see in pics 4& 8 there is slight edge veneer loss at the front side corners. In pic 5 you can barely see that the veneer has been re-glued. There are a few nicks here and there, and there are hardware circles around a couple of the drawer pulls, where the handles have been rotated and made a circle in the wood around. The hardware, as well as the design, makes this piece much more eye catching, with steel pulls and horizontal rosewood tips on each pull. This piece measures 54" x 32" x 18" deep. Italian 17/18th century Walnut Highly Carved Gothic Renaissance Cassone Chest
Offered for your consideration A MAGNIFICENT 17th or 18th century HIGHLY CARVED WALNUT CASSONE CHEST With Lions Paw Feet. In the 17th and 18th century these wonderful chests were part of the dowry when two patrician families joined in marriage. They were used as chests to store clothes and bedding and were a common sight in castles and manor houses. Usually they had the crest of the family carved on the front or top. And this one is no exception. The lovely carving is very detailed, with reclining female figures on the left and right and the family crest carved into the panel in the middle of the front. As you can see from the photos, the cassone chest is very old and the inside is rustic. The carved walnut has a wonderful color and patina. The back legs were unstable and have been replaced with newer ones in the same style as the original ... moreones. The lions paw feet in front are huge and well carved and have also been reattached and the bottom of the chest was reinforced with new wood so all in all this piece is solid and ready to be used. I have seen several similar cassones in museums but rarely see them for sale. The Getty has a beautiful one, as does the Huntington Library, Hearst Castle and the Metropolitan Museum. This one was purchased many years ago in NYC and unfortunately no longer fits into my new house. These pieces are wonderful in large halls, living rooms with tapestries hanging over them or wherever you need a statement piece! The overall size of this piece is 6 feet 4" inches from outside toe to outside toe, 28" deep from back to front of toe, 35" tall to top surface, which is 10 1/2" wide x 54" long and is a perfect spot to display a pair of gilt candlesticks, a sculpture or pair of vases. As this is a large heavy piece, shipping will be costly so keep this in mind. MCM Walnut Veneer Lane Cedar Chest in Very Nice Original Condition 60's Danish
Lane Mid Century Modern Cedar Chest This is a lovely cedar chest finished(if I’m understanding the serial number) on 04-07-65. It shows a bit of wear from the years– the ordinary bumps. Nicks, and scratches even well-cared-for furniture shows- but remains in very nice vintage condition. Its veneers. Which are complete, show even coloration– apparently it’s been carefully stored out of the sun for all these years. The air-seal gasket is still intact on the lid. It has one spot(approx. 1/16" x ½" please see the closeup) of what looks like nail polish on the top. There are small scratches and indentations on the top. Of which I’ve tried to show the worst. When the light is coming across the top of this chest you can see proof that it is almost 50 years old. There is one quarter-sized spot on the top where the varnish is slightly ... moreopaque- you can just barely see it in one of the photos. Oddly enough I can't see it when looking at the top- only in the photos. The previous owners were smokers. Though I can no longer notice any smell you’ll know best whether this lovely cedar chest will work for you. The chest is 43 ¼" wide x 16 ¾" deep x 20" tall. In spite of it’s minor flaws it is a lovely chest and a pleasure to see. I’m not the original owner. The original locks are not included in this sale. New locks are available for free from Lane’s website. Feel free to ask for more pictures. Let me know what you want to see and I'll be glad to oblige. This is a beautiful vintage Lane cedar chest from 1965. This chest isn't typical of Lane designs. It has a very sleek mid century modern look. The chest is walnut wood lined with cedar. It has a storage tray on the inside for smaller items. The chest measures 20-1/4" tall, 53-1/4" long and it is 17-5/8" deep. It is in excellent condition with no damage. On close inspection it shows a few scratches and there is a ding on the back right corner, nothing outstanding though. This chest comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home. It is clean and ready to use. Per the Consumer Product Safety Commission(CPSC) Full size chests manufactured between 1912-1987 need to have their locks replaced or removed due to the fact that the original locks automatically latch shut when closed and children can become entrapped. Virginia. This is from a very recent Estate Sale and has had only one owner. The warm walnut exterior of the cabinet on this chest/trunk is in amazing condition especially considering it is 50 years old almost to the day. Date Manufactured: 01/15/1965) The inside is lined completely with the aromatic pressure tested Cedar. This Trunk and/or Chest is in excellent condition and is ready to be filled with the hopes and dreams of someone very special. The dimensions of the Chest are 34” X 17” X 21” A nice size that allows it to be utilized in most every room and application. Upon a thorough inspection there are no scratches. Gouges or repairs on the ... morepiece. There are some very very slight indentions that can been seen in the top only if you catch it in the right light. Very hard to see. Lock has been removed for security and recall of all locks for lane cedar chests. A new lock has been ordered and will be sent to buyer.
