I did check with the local Antique Mall and they had some that were close, but they didn't work. I'm so thankful that I took photos of the inside first! This trunk measures approximately 22" ... morelong X 14" wide X 15 1/2" high and it has two hinges in back that hold the lid securely to the base. There used to be sturdy leather handles on each side of the trunk but they are no longer intact, these can be purchased inexpensively on-line and they're fairly easy to replace. The corner protectors and hardware appear to be brass plated steel. There are two hasp type closures, one on each side of the lock and the lock needs to be bent just a little to close it securely. We tried the key and the locking mechanism seems to work properly but we didn't want to damage anything so it will arrive open with the key tucked in an envelope safely inside. The inside of the trunk is wood and there should be wood beneath the black material covering the outside(it is non-magnetic and we don't think it's metal) This little trunk is in very good condition and once it's restored it should be a beauty- perfect for your antique doll collection or as a gift for a very special grandchild. It measures 36 inches long by 24 in ches tall with the lid closed by 20 inches deep. It features a remova ble storage tray and more linens. Beddings. And clothing can be placed underne ath for conv enient additional hu ge storage. It is a wood structure trunk and frame with smooth me tal(black) and woven pattern metal riveted overlays with beautiful beading to ta ck in metals and curved and straight gorg eousl y grained wood slat s. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side locking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. There are some scuffs on the side and bottom as shown in the photos, but these only add character to this trunk which has likely has travelled thousands of miles. Made in Holland Circa 1960 Oak Black metal hardware Carved panels Some veneer issues on interior bottom Very good overall condition, This trunk is a great piece for extra storage in any room and would make a particularly nice looking piece at the foot of a bed. The oak wood and blackened metal look great together. One of the more prominent features on this trunk are the two carved panels on the front. They are well done carvings that depict scenes of eating and dancing. A very merry theme! The oak itself has a medium color to it which is contrasted with ... morethe black metal studs. Handle, and hinges found throughout. There is no lock on this trunk, it never had one and could be considered a blanket box. The exterior of this trunk is in very good condition and was obviously well taken care of. There is only sporadic light wear. This trunk was made in Holland around 1960 so you would expect this type of light wear from a piece of this age. Inside the trunk. The oak veneer at the bottom has come away a little in a few spots, leaving the white color lines you see in the photo of the interior. Nothing structural there, just a cosmetic issue that will be covered up by whatever you store inside the trunk. This Dutch oak trunk with carvings has a lovely look about it. Here is a close up of the two carved panels depicting Dutch celebrations on the trunk. The hinged lid opens easily. Inside there are some cosmetic issues as outlined in the description. Vintage Industrial Metal Trunk Chest Box Storage Locker Antique
This is a great solid steel chest. It is 42"long. 21" wide and 18" deep. It has 6 handles so it can be lifted from any side. It is thoroughly weathered and has no outer finish left. I took a wire wheel to it to get all the loose rust and debris off. This is going to be a great coffee table for somebody. Who inherited it from her mother. My best guess is that it was used to store firewood either inside or outside. It has iron hasps and handles; it opens as shown; it sits on an iron base 4" off the ground, although you don't have to use the base if you would like to display this piece indoors. This is a beautiful genuine antique Lane brand cedar lined hope chest which belonged to my grandmother. She was given this as a 9th grade graduation gift in 1952 from her mom and dad. I do not know the actual date of manufacturing only the year she was given it. According to the product information given below and the serial number. The date of manufacturing is 08/02/50. The color is a beautiful medium brown and made out of solid cedar wood and veneer on the outside and brown stain finish. This chest is very secure and sturdy.
