I think this silk IHS brocade cloth is a chalice veil. It measures approximately 18 inches square. The condition is excellent. But there is a teeny area where the fabric is soiled. It is barely noticeable, and I mention it only for accuracy in the listing. This spotlet appears to be recent, not a soaked in stain and would most likely remove. I have not attempted to clean it as I am a terrible laundress. It has a C.M. Almy& Son. Rye NY label sewn on the backside. Comes from a clean. Smoke-free, pet-free environment. Spanish Chalice Veil Made of Sumptuous 18thC Metallic Brocaded Silk Damask. This is a wonderful antique Spanish chalice veil. It is made of superb. Very costly antique 18th century silk damask, which is brocaded with gold wire thread. The flowers and leaves of the design are padded with yellow cotton threads underneath to give a raised effect. The veil is edged with metallic gold trim. It is in overall good used condition. But as you will see from the photos some of the raised areas have worn slightly to expose the yellow cotton threads underneath. There is also wear in silk along where the veil has obviously been folded. The lining on the back has lots of age spots on it.
