Tang Dynasty Sancai Glazed Ceramic Statuette of a Female Musician Holding a Pair of Cymbals. CLASSIFICATION: Ceramic Statuette. ATTRIBUTION: In the Style of Ancient China. Tang Dynasty, 8th or 9th Century A.D. Possibly a Ming Dynasty or 18th or 19th Century Qing Dynasty Revival Imitative. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Height: 145 millimeters(5 3/4 inches) Breadth: 79 millimeters(3 1/8 inches) Thickness: 80 millimeters(3 1/4 inches) CONDITION: Very good. No repairs but the majority of glaze is gone. A little wear and a few blemishes consistent with any decorative item which was buried for over one thousand years. A very thick alkaline soil deposition layer. Not flawless, but certainly in a better than average state of preservation– and unrepaired! Stands on its own. DETAIL: A nicely preserved clay statuette so wonderfully characteristic of Tang Dynasty statuary. Sancai. Or three-color glazes principally in yellow, green and brown was a development of the Tang Dynasty(618-907 AD) Sancai(three-colored" wares were first made for burial, using lead-based glazes that produced mottled and streaky effects in green, amber-brown, and cream, with an occasional addition of blue or black. The production of such exquisite porcelain items required multiple firings of fine white clay at temperatures near 1000c(1800f) degrees. A wide variety of statuettes were commonly produced such as musicians, chamberlains(butlers) maids, cooks, even animals; all designed to serve their deceased master. In early Tang dynasty. Production of sancai pottery figurines dominated the pottery scene, and their production continued well into the Ming era which advanced the art with more intense colors and finer porcelain clay. The pottery and porcelain figures produced from the Tang all the way through the Ming Dynasties are famous even until today for their beautiful

This English Victorian late 19th century ceramic tile is 6 inches by 6 inches. It has no cracks. Is in good condition with several tiny chips at edges. It shows underglaze crazing in the light yellow parts. See above photos. According to the back it was made by Corn Bros. c1895-1900. The tile was purchased in the UK. VICTORIAN DRESSMAKER Vintage (1950's?) HB Japan Ceramic Tiles in Wooden Frame
There is no date on these. So my guess is that these are from the 1950's when Japan started trading with the US a lot. The sticker on the back of one of them says"HB Japan" These are a matched set showing a Victorian dressmaker's shop on one tile and a men's clothing store on the other. Antique Victorian ceramic tile and iron bracket
VERY old ceramic tile and iron bracket/trivet. Possibly from Victorian England. This is a very old ceramic tile inserted into an iron frame with screws/nuts on the bottom that at one time was probably used as a trivet. The tile is cracked. But looking at the age of this piece(estimate late 1800’s) the cracks only add to the patina of age. The total piece measures 4” square x 5/8” thick and weighs in at over a pound(19 oz to be exact) The tile has a nice coloration of greens. Gold and off-white and age-appropriate crackling of the glaze, with a beautiful leaf pattern incised into the top of the tile. There is an iron plate on the bottom with a hole drilled in the center. For what purpose I can’t say. The piece does not sit flat, so I’m thinking that the square nuts on the bottom snug the iron plate up to the back of the tile and secure it ... morein the frame. The tile may have actually fractured when it was being tightened into the frame, but there’s no way of telling. In any case, this is definitely an antique. It would look cool in a small shadowbox or simply as an accessory. I would not recommend putting it on a wooden tabletop without padding. As it will scratch the wood. A unique item. Victorian Tile Trivet wBrass Aesthetic Movement 1850-1899 Floral Pottery/Ceramic
This listing is for a Victorian Antique Tile Trivet set in solid brass. The pattern design is from the Aesthetic Movement 1870's. MEASURMENTS: The tile itself measures 6 inches square by 3/8 inch thick. Overall the piece measures 8.5" square. It is nice and heavy. The tile is held into place with 4 bent over hooks with flat pieces of metal. COLORS: Rust brown. Gray, yellow and a rose red on an of-white tile base. MARKS: Please see my last three close up photos. CONDITION: There are a lot of black pencil marks on the back of the tile. Someone has added beige felt to each of the brass feet of the trivet. Antique art tiles made by the Trent tile company of Trenton New Jersey. Trent was one of the largest tile factories in the United States between the 1880s and the 1910s. Unmarked but a well-documented Trent design. Gothic styling a mauve glaze. Excellent condition. A couple of very small defects. Each tile measures 3" x 3" x 4.25" The central tile in the photograph is a 4 1/4 inch tile. You are bidding on The four TRIANGLES ONLY The The central 4 1/4 inch tile is NOT included in this auction. I purchased these about 10 years ago and they have been packed away. I have not taken the paper off the backside of the frames. But I saw similar tiles in the book: American Art Pottery. Identification& Values by Dick Sigafoose. Published by Collector Books. Paducah, Kentucky, 1998, page 17. The book advised: These 2 ¼” diameter store tiles with female portraits are unsigned. But the right facing portrait(my photo of this girl is on the right side in the first photo) is identified in Zanesville Art Tile in Color by the Evan and Louise Purviance. Both tiles are a blue and white glaze of ladies who appear to have Victorian hair styles The lady on ... morethe right(braid in lower portion of hair) appears to have a little brown in the center of photo. When I look at the tile in daylight I do not see that brown mark Tiles are smooth to the touch. But the photos shows the glaze is crazed Close ups showing the tile crazing makes the tiles look worse than they look in person Size of the tiles is about 2 inches round The gold colored frame holding the tiles is about 4.25 inches round with a hanger on the back Tiles are placed against a pearl/ grey velvet Backside of the frames has brown paper on the backside which I have not removed Charming antiques!
