Mulberry Press, CA, 1991. Approximately 300 black-and-white photographs with identifying captions highlight this scholarly treatise on Worcester transfer printed pottery and porcelain. The literature on Worcester porcelain has a breadth and variety entirely befitting for the most widely collected of all the English porcelain factories. And the only one with an unbroken history of production from the mid-eighteenth century until the present day. The first twenty-five years of its output alone, have generated the publication in at least ten book since the early 1950s. Yet in that time, no book has specifically addressed the subject of over-glaze transfer-printing, ... morea technique both pioneered, and brought to perfection at the Worcester factory. Joseph Handley’s catalogue, with its hundred and twenty so pieces of Worcester, is there fore a valuable and timely addition to the collector’s bookshelf. This comprehensive text covers by chapter: Porcelain: Commemoratives(Worcester. ANTIQUE ENGLISH TRANSFER PRINTED POTTERY of GEORGIAN ENGLAND 18th CENTURY
Printed English Pottery. History and Humour in the reign of George III. 1760-1820” By David Drakard. Published in London by Jonathan Horne in 1992. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: All thought of antique ceramics as staid. Safe, uncontroversial collectibles is thrown out the window in this enjoyable book, as the author plies the highways and byways of Georgian printed pottery, a neighborhood where potters, searching for images to decorate their wares with, started using the prints and satires issued by the ton by English printmakers. Georgian London was rife with politics and political and satirical, bawdy humor, and that was all reflected in the works of her print publishers and sellers, whose works soon enough ended up fired onto the jugs, plates and tankards being turned out in Staffordshire and other English potting ... morecenters. The result is perhaps best left up to the imagination, though for those who want more direct evidence, it is all provided here. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 8.5”x12” 268 pages, black& white illustrations, dust jacket. CONDITION NOTES: The dust jacket has a little light wear(please see the photos. English Victorian 6" Transfer Printed Tile, Calla Lily, Bamboo, Aesthetic Period
This is a very striking transfer printed and hand colored 6 inch ceramic tile. Presumably from the Victorian period. I can't figure out the English registry mark on the back, so I'm not sure of its age. It features a central image of calla lillies surrounded by a bamboo framework with other flowers and leaves around the edges. It is about three eighths of an inch thick. The tile is in good condition for its age. There are some fine scratches across the center as shown in the photos. Please contact me with any questions you might have.

Antique Ironstone Transfer Printed w/Polychrome Highlights Staffordshire Plate
This item is a 9 3/8" mid 19th century transfer printed ironstone plate with polychrome highlights. The plate has 14 sides and raises up slightly on the edges making it 1 1/4" tall when flat. It is marked on the back"Brunswick No" and next to that it is embossed"Ironstone" The floral colors are purple. Pink and blue with some green leaves. The scroll design along the edge looks to be a very dark purple or navy and the plate itself is an oyster off white. It does have crazing throughout the piece with light staining as shown in the various close up photos. There is one small glaze pop as shown in the last photo. There are no chips, cracks or hairlines. I was told that this is likely a plate made by one of the Staffordshire factories in England and"Brunswick" was probably the pattern name. It is thinly potted with a precision cut rim and a crisp. Finely applied transfer. The top side of the lid is excellent. Slightly crazed on the inside ... moredue to contact with the toothpaste. Lowestoft Blue Transfer Printed Three Flowers Soft Paste Porcelain Bowl 1775
Lowestoft Blue Transfer Printed Three Flowers Soft Paste Porcelain Bowl 1775. Offered for sale is a blue and white bowl transfer printed in the"Three Flowers" pattern. The only mark is a painted crescent mark. You can see the blue of the pearlware glaze where it pools in the foot rim. The bowl dates to 1775 to 1785. It measures 4 1/4 inches wide by 2 3/8 inches tall and weighs only 6 oz(shipping weight 15 oz) Both Worcester and Lowestoft produced this pattern and used the crescent mark. I attributed this bowl to Lowestoft based on the double line circling the interior rim. A typical Lowestoft treatment, and the fact that the crescent mark was roughly hand-painted; Worcester usually printed the crescent mark on its printed wares. Condition: There is a glazed chip to the rim and a small darkened spot where the glaze has been lost ... moreon the interior of the bowl. As shown, as shown. Please see the detail photos below. 12 Blue & White Victorian/Aesthetic Sunflower Design Transfer Printed Tiles
12 Blue& White Victorian/Aesthetic Sunflower Design Transfer Printed Tiles This set of 12 tiles probably came from a fireplace or washstand and would probably be ideal for that purpose again or anywhere that some decorative tiles would look good. Although they are blue and white they do look a bit on the gray side in certain lights. There are no markings to the underside and I have not been able to find similar pattern so I do not know the maker. Condition: These are old used tiles. 3 of which have been untidily trimmed down one edge(obviously made to fit in the original place of rest) The colour does vary from tile to tile and they are mostly crazed. Some have marks and one of the trimmed tiles has brown marks and staining of the crazing. There are small nibbles on the edge of some of these tiles and other manufacturing flaws and blemishes ... moreincluding areas of missing glaze. Please see photos below and if you need more, please let me know. Size: Complete tiles 15.4cm x 15.4cm. Trimmed tiles are about 15cm wide. Depth 1cm. Combined weight of tiles unpacked is 4kg Packed weight may exceed 5kg so I have quoted postage at the higher rate of £8 although if the eventual packed weight is under 5kg I will refund via paypal the £2 postage difference. Buyers quite welcome to collect of view before bidding. Please feel free to ask any questions. I will try to answer questions as soon as possible. But this will normally be in the evening. There are times where I may not be able to reply within 24 hours but I will reply well before the listing ends. Postage& Packing I am always happy to combine postage. Primarily for the upper classes, and was accomplished with a variety of strange tools.
