This is a great Ceramic Tile with a Tropical Fish Motif and artist signed from Gladding McBean in the Hermosa Tile line. It has a great Mid Century style wire frame and the tile measures approx 6 1/8" x 6 1/8" and with the frame approx 10" x 10" There is a little bit of rust on the frame and on the back of the tile there are some minor glaze chips.the surface of the tile has a tiny glaze pinpoint mark at edge of base that is also very minor and not seen in frame at all. Gladding McBean. Los Angeles, CA 1890-1962 Four matte glaze colors cover the smooth surface of this thick, vintage GMB tile. A shield with two crossing skeleton keys is set on the diagonal and each corner has a leaf motif. Gladding McBean LA plant at College and Date Streets mainly produced architectural terra cotta, roofing tiles and decorative tiles using red clay. This tile is signed and measures 6" square x 3/4" thick. Minor corner wear; otherwise great condition.

Vintage Gladding McBean Hermosa Large Tropical Fish Decorative Art Tile 12"x6"
A beautiful vintage large(12"x6" Hermosa tile from Gladding McBean of colorful tropical fish in pink. Gold, silver, yellow, green, grayish black and blue against an aqua blue background. The gold and silver also accent other areas giving this piece depth and dimension. It is in wonderful condition for its age. No breaks. A couple of small chips here and there on the back edges and one small chip in the upper right corner front. This item also has two natural flaws that apparently took place during its production/firing. Please review pictures closely. I took pictures both inside and outside so that the different lighting could show its affect on the piece and to assure the details could be seen. We don't know who made this antique ceramic architectural tile; could be American Encaustic or Gladding McBean( It has 3 decorated sides and the interesting glazing is a combination of textured matte background with semi-gloss swirl designs. There are some unique glazing anomalies on the sides. Where the colors drip down and blend together. Holes were drilled in the back for installation. It's definitely different! Display this anywhere or have it installed inside or out. It is in good condition; has some chips and wear. Measures 9" tall x 9" wide x 3 1/2" thick.
