SUPERB 1950'S GILA POTTERY 2 TILE SET NAVAJO DRUMMER DESERT HOUSE TUCSON ESTATE
Click to Enlarge Click to Enlarge Click to Enlarge Click to Enlarge Click to Enlarge From a Tucson estate some years ago and a superb example of Gila Pottery tile art is this flat out superb vintage Mid Century two(2) tile set. Beautifully referencing its regional making and never set or mounted. The ultimately useable I believe 1950's or so Southwestern artwork features a striking Navajo ceremonial drummer, all accomplished in cuenca polychrome glaze technique- a brilliant demonstration of what was possible from this Arizona studio.absolutely among the best Gila tile(s) I have seen. I am saying Gila Pottery, because Bob Mckusick actually called his workshop that in Globe; he was associated with Desert House Crafts in Tucson during the 1950's, a possible reason this set surfaced in the Old Pueblo. McCusick employed some top tier Native ... moreAmerican artists in the design of their various tiles, including Daniel Nash, Oswald Fredericks, Beatien Yazz, and Pablita Velarde. That said this particular set exhibits substantial visual charisma, and I'm sure relates to one of those referenced names.perhaps you know which one. I have often come across single Gila Tiles and especially the smaller touristic ones in local estates over the years, but the compositional tile sets from this studio are thin on the ground.go look for yourself. Condition is quite fine with clean and bright surfaces and no hidden restorations to dampen your day. As previously stated, the tiles have never seen any use. The raised outline at the bottom of the drummer's shirt on the lower tile has a tiny spot of surface wear(about 1/8 in. long) this may have occured during its years in a closet, or may have been there when originally acquired during the period. There are otherwise just some ancient remains of adhesive residue on the glaze surface from being taped together back to back for 50 plus years(I know this will all clean off, since I've already done most of the work) and a very few typical and expected and in this case exceedingly

Valley National Bank 1966 Promotional Gila Pottery Tile Thunderbird Logo Design
Welcome to Gallery Thingz! Valley National Bank 1966 Promotional Arizona Southwest Pottery Tile Thunderbird Logo Design Up for consideration is a Vintage Pottery Tile that I believe to be Gila Pottery also known as Desert House Crafts. Without removing the covering on the back I cannot be 100% positive that this is Gila Pottery) The Thunderbird design is in the style of the Valley National Bank Logo and is from the 1960’s. According to the back this tile was meant as a promotional item for a breakfast sponsored by the bank in November of 1966. The tile itself is in very colorful and well made. Raised lines separate the six glossy glazes and there is a lot of geometric and figural detail in the design.
