1920's or 30's 4 PIECE TILE OF A PARROT WITH SURROUND, CALIFORNIA ART TILE
I love this tile. When my grandmother's table broke beyond repair. I salvaged the tile from it. I planned on having another table made or re-using it as a backsplash. That was 20 years ago.The tile is from the late 1920's to 1930's. I believe they, or perhaps just the decorative 6 x 6 tiles, are Catalina( California Art Tile. The parrot decorative tiles are 6 x 6. The border tile is 2 x 6, the corners are 2 x 2. The background on the parrot tiles are a deep blue/black, the border tiles are a true black. I have not cleaned these tiles up. Some of the terra cotta grout came off when I was lifting the tile out of the table, it is still on parts of the tile and the adhesive remains are on the back.please see pictures. Truly one of the most spectacular pieces I have had the pleasure in owning and now passing on. This is a(16) tile California Faience Table. The table measures 20" square x 20 1/2" high. The(16) tile pieces are inlaid in a Walnut wood frame and supported by solid Walnut turned legs. It is VERY sturdy and well made. Wood has some scratches and deeper gouges. But a coat of Restore a Finish did it wonders. There are also some TINY white paint specks that I have removed, and may have missed few. The tiles are in excellent condition. There are a couple of edge nicks and rough edges, mostly on 2 corner tiles. See last 3 photos. Very minor and really only pointed out for the eBay microscope. California Art Knight on Horse tile - framed 5 3/4"
Up for sale is this great vintage California Art tile of a Knight on a horse. It measures right at about 5 3/4" square and has a nice semi-glossy finish on it. I have shown photos of a couple of rough spots on the tile. I have not removed it from the frame. As there is a paper backing as shown. I am presuming that it may have been set at some point, since the back has what seems to be the adhesive material that would be used to attach a tile to a wall, etc. The entire piece, including the frame, measures just under 9 1/2" square. I am not certain of the wood type used to frame this great piece. Item is sold as-is. So please see photos and ask any questions prior to bidding.
