Measures approximately 36 x 24 inches in size. ... morePlease be aware that these National Geographic Maps are anywhere from 10 to 90 years old. They are printed on paper that is not acid free and in most cases have not been stored in the best way. So the maps you are buying may be in a condition that reflects both of these facts. The map you get may be worn or lightly torn along the fold lines due to the acidity of the paper and being folded for years. They may also be discolored or mottling spots again due to the acidity of the paper. The borders of the maps may also have small tears. On occasion maps may smell musty from the way they have been stored in the past. When the map is kept in an open area the musty smell will fade away in time. Philadelphia, 1856. DeSilver’s maps are considerably rarer than those of his more successful competitiors such as Mitchell. His lack of success does not seem to be because of the quality of his work, for his maps are very detailed with beautifully worked images. DeSilver began his cartographic career in Philadelphia as a partner in the Thomas Cowperthwait Co. The publisher of the Mitchell Atlases. In 1856 he purchased the publishing rights from S.A. Mitchell, Sr. for many of the maps in Mitchell’s“Universal Atlas. DeSilver altered the maps with a new grillwork border, his own colors and often new titles and updated ... moredata. The map of the State of Indiana has a more noticeable brown spot on the lower right and a faint brownish stain toward the top. Right margin edge. This is an 1871 engraved map of Ohio. Indiana, Illinois& Kentucky. It measures 12.5 X 17 inches. Published by T. Edward Zell. Philadelphia. Map was engraved by J. Bartholomew. For history of the famous Bartholomew maps, see last paragraph below. We are unable to find many of these maps in the major dealers sites. This is an original antique double sided set of center pages or leaves from the 1943 WWII Wartime published Encyclopedia Britannica Atlas. Please note that this is not a lot of four separate images but rather this is a center page with two sides. Each with a map of it's own. There are some condition issues with this map: minor discoloration along the page edges and brittle paper. No major tears or creases or holes. It is in largely Good to Very Good condition. Given it's age. Of the state maps I have listed from this Atlas. This is a special listing, not because there are 4 states or two pages still joined, but rather because of the center spread itself. This is a rare pocket map of Ohio-Indiana Illinois& Michigan dated 1831. The colors are very vibrant as this has been stored away for 150+ years! This map was made by S Augustus Mitchell and is dated in the bottom right hand corner and covers the states of Ohio-Indiana Illinois& Michigan Territory. The original cover has some dents on the corners and damage to the spine(please see photos) and one spot on the back that is ripped. The map itself is hand colored. And there are a few marks on the back of the map. There are 3 small tears where the map folds.
