The maps are printed on one side only. Condition These maps are very good condition. The maps themselves are clean and bright. There are a few marks in the margins of a few of the maps. This will be evident in the scanned images, which are high quality and unedited. The maps are untrimmed and are suitable for framing. This auction is for 12 maps and the index for 1897 bicycle routes in Wisconsin. They are marked the League of American Wheelmen. The maps are in the original box. All maps are in good. Clean condition. Just fold wear typical of the section 1 map shown. Also some edge wear from the box. Section 12 has a box tears on the edge but is limited to the margin. The box has wear and a loose edge but is complete with no poke thru. The maps are on parchment type paper. They are fairly large. Map of Indiana from an 1897 encyclopedia. Two page map. Blank on the back so nothing will show through. In very good antique condition. Some age toning(its 100+ years old! But no stains. Has crease down middle from where it was folded as part of the book. This is an original 1897 map. Not a copy or contemporary reprint. Measures 15 x 10 3/4 inches overall. Map size is 9 x 11 1/4 inches. Paper Condition Because most of the prints and advertisements were once in books or magazines. They all have at least a small bit of wear. Although there are differences in the amount of wear, items and prints are worthy of framing or another type of display. 1897 Wisconsin Original Colored 15" x 10.5" Detailed Map
1897 Wisconsin Original Colored 15" x 10.5" Detailed Map This listing is for an original 1897 color lithographic map of Wisconsin with an inset of Milwaukee and the Waukesha Lake Region. It is extraordinarily detailed for a map its size and includes seemingly every city and town. As well as, counties, railroad lines, geographical references, including contour lines, hills, mountains, lakes, rivers, ponds, islands and prominent points if applicable. The map is on standard weight paper and measures 16.5 x 11.75 inches including ample margins that are somewhat greater than shown in the picture. The condition overall is fine and as shown in the pictures. The paper is over 100 years old and is age toned as should be expected. The map is a high resolution scan and therefore the size and details may seem to be greater than what is viewed ... morewith the naked eye. These maps were tipped into the atlas and therefore contain no staple marks. Most of the maps are double-page and therefore have a crease down the center with the tipping strip on the reverse. Residual of the tipped-in strip remains but it could be removed or trimmed prior to matting and framing. The crease may be pressed flat but it will likely never completely disappear. It should also be expected that the page edges will show some minor wear and soiling but the margins are sufficient that the wear will not be noticeable after being matted and framed. As should be expected. There is age toning as the result of being exposed to air and more specifically moisture in the air. The paper is cream toned which tends to get slightly darker toward the edges. The fold in the center is darker as well. There are no water stains, nor unexpected odors. The reverse side is largely blank having only the map number and name in each corner. There is no post printing damage or faults such as offsetting, tears, holes, foxing, or writing marks, other than what would be disclosed herein.
