The map is from The“Atlas To Accompany The Official Records Of The Union And Confederate Armies” This Atlas was published from 1891 to 1895 in 2 volumes. These atlases were not sold. They were given to institutions and libraries. The maps and locations of Union and Confederate positions were created by the men and officers that were part of the various battles of the Civil War. This map is Plate VI of Volume I. It includes the defenses of Washington D.C. and battle fields in Kentucky. These maps show the topography and the positions of the Confederate and Union Armies during these engagements. Please review the photos for the details of this Plate. This map measures 18 inches by 29 inches. It has no holes or creases. It does have two tears in the bottom margin about 1 inch and shows some foxing around the edges. The tears would be covered by matting when framed. It is a great piece of history and would look great framed in your den. Office, or family room. SHIPPING: This map will be shipped flat in a rigid mailer enclosed in a poster sleeve. Shipping will be priority mail with tracking at a cost of $7.95. This book includes the short lived early Civil War Military map of the United States plus the new Western Territory Maps including what was to be the new Confederate Territory of Arizona that lasted from August 1861 to July 1862. Details U.S.Mail routes and proposed Railroad routes plus a New Map of the State of Texas and a beautifully engraved frontispiece. All ... moremaps are in very good condition with only a small amount of bottom separation of the double Ohio-Ind map. A small amount of stains and only a very few tiny little edge tears plus there is some light toning to the outside edges. There is some water stains at the front and back pages only and they are on the edges only and it does not effect the map core. There is no mold problems and no musty odors. A few tree leaves were pressed in the front few pages at one time but not the plate pages.The cover is still attached and has some splitting at the gutter. The binding and sewing is still very good and not loose at all. Leather is chipped at spine and corners and covers have some fading and scuffing. Has original marbled endpapers and there is some scattered chipping and minor edge tears at first and last pages as can be expected. The primary elements of this atlas is very good. It is a good atlas for a nice collection of the hard to find 1862 maps, I believe you will be pleased with it. Free shipping and always carefully packed for safe and timely arrival. ESTATE FIND ANTIQUE HAND-COLORED CIVIL WAR ERA MAP Wisconsin& Michigan. 1864 measures approx. 26 1/2" x 18" Up for auction is an original antique 1864 map of Wisconsin& Michigan from Johnson's New Illustrated Family Atlas. We purchased the atlas at an estate sale. This map is hand colored and fascinating to look at. As you can see in the photos it does have some wear around the edges but the actual image is in great condition. It also has a fold/ crease in the center as it was part of a book. Johnson's maps were some of the best maps produced during the 19th Century and were used extensively during the Civil War. This map is over 150 years old and is both rare and highly desirable. Original 1865 ILLINOIS From Johnson's Atlas CIVIL WAR ERA
JOHNSON'S ILLINOIS BY JOHNSON AND WARD 1865 This large original map was removed from a Johnson's Family Atlas. Maps from these atlases are vibrant and full of color. It is neat seeing how the borders have changed. For the age of these maps they are in good shape. With these maps being this old. There is likely going to be some fading, marks, smudges, etc and rough edge where they were removed from the atlas. I believe when they have these faults, it adds to the character of the map. It measures approximately 28"x 18" There are tears along both edges of the seam. See Pictures. They are not very noticeable when laid flat. Once framed. They should not be noticeable.
