16 Vintage Architectural Decorative Mid Century Modernism Mirrored 4" x 4" Tiles
Up for auction are 16 vintage mirrored architectural tiles recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia. PA area. Each tile measures approximately 4" x 4" in size. Each have a gold pattern of stars and diamonds in a repeating pattern. They are all found in good used condition. The only condition issue to report is a chipped corner on one tile and a rough side on another. It has a nice 50's look and would be great as a splash back in a mid century modern setting. At one time, they may have been self sticking but you will need an adhesive to mount these now. Will produce a very nice look where a mirrored accent is needed. The tiles are very nice. With no chips or cracks. There is some age crazing; does not detract. One has s light discoloration on white background. Two have pheasant like birds. Pair of PEWABIC Tiles Featuring a GIRAFFE and a LION. Approx. 2-3/4" x 2-3/4".
Pewabic Pottery was founded by Mary Chase Perry Stratton in 1903 in Detroit. Michigan. The company made many types of art pottery, including pieces with matte green glaze and an iridescent crystalline glaze. By 1911, Pewabic Pottery was using its famous Persian or Egyptian blue glaze. The company continued working until the death of Mary Stratton in 1961. It was reactivated by Michigan State University in 1968. For your consideration is a terrific pair of Pewabic ceramic/pottery tiles of a majestic Lion. And tall standing Giraffe. Each measures approximately 2-3/4' x 2-3/4" x 1/2" The Pewabic stamps on the bottoms are clean and clear, and both are dated 2000. The tiles are defect free and exhibit no cracks, chips, or crazing. Please review the photos to fully appreciate these terrific pieces of Art. The color on these tiles ... moreare spectacular. The background color is a evergreen color. The bodies of the Giraffe and Lion is a tan/fawn color. The Giraffe spots and the Lion's mane is a darker brown. What really catches my eye is the outline of both animals. It has an appearance of being outlined in copper! This would make a terrific surprise for those who enjoy and appreciate Pewabic artisanship.
