Antiques. Collectables, Paintings, Fine Ceramics and Glass 3 FRAMED 18 TH. CENTURY DUTCH DELFT MANGANESE TILES These three Dutch. Delft, manganese tiles are dated to around 1750. They make a superb set mounted in their frame. The ground is cream and design is in purplish brown colour. The scenes on the tiles are of the canal with windmill. Boats and farm or church with small designs in the corners. They are uniquely hand painted in this wonderfully naive style. The condition of all 3 tiles is particularly good for this age. There are a few frits and nibbles to the edge. Some crazing and the tile on the right is slightly brown on the top, this may be the result of old tobacco smoke. Each tile measures 13cm x 13 cm x 7mm(approximately) or 5¼ inches x 5¼ inches. The wooden frame measures just more than 17½ inches x 7½ inches. ... moreI have added more pictures to show the condition and thickness of the tiles out of the frame. I'm afraid the colour looks varied as I was having problems with my camera. Manganese is a mineral used since Egyptian times to stain glazes and bodies. The colour varies depending on the glaze. Lead glazes give a purplish brown colour. As with these tiles. Manganese mixed with iron in an alkaline glaze creates a rich black tone. Delftware tiles were very popular. Popular decorative motifs included landscapes and flowers. With smaller designs in each corner. In Britain early delftware copied the Dutch manganese palette. MidCentury Hand-Painted Delft Blue Windmill & Harvest Dutch Holland Ceramic Tile
5.25" by 5.25" size square tile of 1/4" thickness. It dates back to middle 20th century. The original hook was removed from the back of the tile. This can be used as a wall decoration. Trivet or in a mosaic. There is a chip on the back the corner of the tile. Which does not affect the front of the tile(as shown in photo#4) The photo is quite enlarged- kind of like viewing the tile under a microscope. This is a ceramic tea light warmer/stove made by Tichelaar Makkum in The Netherlands. The item stands 10 cm tall and 13 cm wide. 2.5 cm is 1 inch) I am not an expert in this field. It was our understanding that these items were from a store in Niagara Falls that closed down in the 70's. Which makes sense, because many of the items were wrapped in newspapers from the area and time mentioned. However, we also found many, many items that were wrapped in the La Presse(Montreal, Quebec, Canada) from the 60's. Additional items were wrapped in a Dutch newspaper from the 60's also. So it is a bit of a conundrum as to when and/or where these actually originate from. This Marvelous Earthenware/ Ceramic Tea Tile measures about 5 7/8 across the face Numerous marks on the back. Holland cloisonné tile. This tile is from 1947, the heart of the Art Deco era, as stamped on the back. Made in the cuenca style and colored in semimatte glazes, the back has embossed marks for the company and incised holes forhanging on the wall. This is a rather rare lot of 5 unique and old manganses Delft tiles featuring a nautical(ships) scene on each. Three tiles are framed and two are in very good condition. The remaining three have hairline cracks and crazing. Even so. It is hard to find these old tiles without missing pieces. Each measures 5 1/8” square and are about 1/4" thick. As you can see, all have been previously used and were salvaged. We purchased this lot approx 30 years ago at a antique shop in Europe and they have been in our smoke free home ever since. We present an original Delft Blue tile from Holland. The motif is floral. Notice the two insects. Or butterflies to the right and left of the flower. Nicely glazed surface(it needs a little cleaning) The background is off white with a bluish tint(stronger than in the photo) The clay is coarse and porous with a lot of mica(sparkling inclusions) No crazing. A couple of minute flea bites at the edges(prior to firing) and a larger flake at the lower left corner. On the whole. It is in a remarkably good pre-owned condition! There are no breakages. Or cracks that run through the fired clay. The tile is not stamped. But it bears a striking resemblance to two tiles by Tichelaar Makkum, that are ... morelisted separately. It dates prior to 1974. Please study the photos carefully before bidding. Because they are part of the description. It came from a Massachusetts home. It belongs to a large collection of Dutch tiles. Antique Delft/ Dutch Tichelaar Makkum Blue and White Pottery Cup
Antique Dutch Delft/ Tichelaar Makkum Blue and White Pottery Cup Up for sale is a very old and pretty piece of Delft-style pottery. It is unmarked. But is eit h er old Delft or was produced by the Tichelaar factory in Makkum. The Netherlands. This factory is over 400 years old, and is the oldest continually operating company in the Netherlands. Ten generations of this family have run the Makkum factory. I suspect it is Makkum. Their process differs from Delft in that with their technique the painting is done on the glaze. So then the pictures"flow" somewhat into the glaze during the baking process. It is blue painting with cobalt oxide, and because of the fusion with the underlying glaze, produces an especially brilliant blue design. Each piece is entirely handpainted. This piece measures 2 7/8 inches high. And is about 4 inches ... morein diameter at its mouth. It has a flora l or lily pond scene on the inside bottom. The piece is in very good antique condition.
