Offered is an antique red velvet panel that is trimmed with gold metallic and bullion trim. I do not know the origin of this piece but because it is fully lined and has two hooks on the reverse side and because it is gathered at the top. I am thinking it was part of a vestment or cape. The reverse side is fully lined with a gold silk fabric. The gold trim is silk and metallic. Gold metallic bullion trim is stitched to the bottom edge. c1950's SET OF TWO BROCADE LITURGICAL DOILIES, EUROPEAN. Metallic Trim, Elegant!
Two amazing pieces for an altar. I have made it a policy to not use the word. rare" in my listings. Let's be honest, an item is seldom truly"rare. But these two matching pieces ARE truly unusual. Sometimes, in this business we take things for granted, so I did feel somewhat overwhelmed as I write this description and get ready to take the photographs. These aren't large textiles. But it's a nice feeling to see something over 60 years old that has never been used or even seen the light of day. Part of stored items I received from my favorite Aunt and Uncle. Many things from them I sold in Antique Textiles Shows from 1986 to 2002, but I still have some items put away. While these are not pre-WWII, they are made in the manner of and very European. Like we picture the Victorians' decorative items to be, elaborate, romantic, ... morevery"sweet. The colors are appropriate. The metallic trim at the edges make a surrounding design, creating the favored antique look even in the church. The fact that this is lined, adds to the charm. The overall condition issue to report is like new. They aren't large pieces at 5 3/4" by 14 1/2, but they make quite a statement. The lining/backing is a soft velvet.
