This is the traditional(pre 1960s) headress portion. consisting of cap, bib, crown and veil) for the novice of a religious order of nun's, probably of the Sisters of St Joseph or some similar congregation in the USA or Canada, once used before the modernising Council of Vatican II. Also present is the profession pectoral crucifix which the Sister would have been given at the end of her postulancy- in beautiful ebony wood clinched in silver nickel with black leather attachment cord. The bib(approx.17" across) and cap(double pleated and 12 1/2" long) are made of white linen and both have attachment cords sewn onto the ends. The triangular crown of black cotton(with reinforced card inside) is 7" high when opened, with a back panel sewn in the back.
